What's your guys thoughts on time as far as an oil change goes.I normally change oil once a year (in the spring) as that usually puts about 5,000 to 5500 miles on the oil change, but last year the truck only got just a smidge over 2300 miles put on it,so what are your guys thoughts on running Redline 5W-30 and a pair of RP filters past a year ,with very little miles on the last oil change. The majority of miles the truck does see are all highway miles, where it runs at 75+mph for 2 hours at a time, very little stop-n-go city driving. Thanks guys

If U do not do the mileage, but sits a lot, I personally would change every year because of condensation and build up from not being used. But that is just me, kinda old school since I grew up in the 3,000 mile Dino oil era.

But definitely stay with quality oil and filter, all IMHO...

Wild One, I only drove 800 miles last year. But I have to change it to keep my lifetime coverage intact.

So today, I took off the RP filter (I thought I had a Napa Platinum on it but I guess not) and put on the oem crap filter to take it in to get an oil change done.

I could do it myself but I sort of forgot to keep the oil and filter purchases receipts - so at least once a year or every 10k I will have the dealer do it using my oil and filter. Only $15-20

Like you it seems to be such a waste, but it is what it is.

Not like I had to worry about condensation, the truck was only started I think 4 times since last summer!

I run my Redline 5W-30 and RP 20-820 filter for about 10K miles. I use the oil reminder on the truck to tell me when.

I sent the last sample to Blackstone for a UOA and it came back excellent all the way around. They said the 10K miles could even be extended a little more if I wanted based on the analysis.

I drive a lot of 70 MPH highway and not a lot of stop and go. I drive about 12K miles a year right now. Down from 16K or so.

I have 8500 miles on the oil now and just ordered oil and filter for another change because we are doing a road trip to PA from SC over Easter.

@Burla did 2 year 10k interval once and if i remember correctly stil had a tbn of 6.2???? Correct me if im wrong burla

my 12 valve oil was last changed in fall of 2018 and ive plowed with it 3 winters since no daily driving other than to go get fuel and the oil as as clean on dipstick as when it came out of the jug. Project farm did a test on youtube of whether oil can last over a year to and it was good.

6.2. that was my 5k run. my 10k run tbn'd at 3.2. If it's clean on the dip stick it's good to go, bg moa can be used for insurance if you are worried.

I put about 3000 miles a year or less, but still have to change my 5-30 redline yearly ,can’t bring myself to go much longer .

Are you a professional interval predicter? Well good news these people exist and it costs like 28 bucks with 10 bucks tbn added, then the lab will set your interval. If you opt fpr this, I would at least go to 5k miles. see blackstone oil labs if interested/.

Thanks guys,i think i'll let it go till this fall or at least till i have 5,000 miles on the oil. My ass kind of puckers at throwing away that much money.Being in Canuckastan it's double the cost to do an oil change up here, and with dual filters it holds an extra litre of oil ,plus throw in one more filter for the dual remote filters.

I wish I could do that. I've went about 5k miles since Jan. 1

Did a couple Fort Myers to Miami jaunts, and have an Orlando trip, and a trip to NC coming up.

It wasn't by choice, lol.
Ended cancelling vacations. I have a company van for everyday plus my wife's car, so the truck is really just for vacation/towing the boat or nice cruise at times :)

5,000 miles, hard stop. Not gonna use TBN as indicator for zero contaminants that could contribute to lower / slower engine oil lubrication passages on a marginally-lubricated engine (all Gen III Hemis). No matter which oil (started PUP, changing to Red Line).

I'm usually much less than 5k for an oil change - unless I put it on really quick, then it might be 6k or a bit over.
By really quick, I mean in a 2-4 week time period. Which also means all highway and in reality 8 days of actual driving - but towing at least half of it.

Got the Blackstone Labs specimen kits today. Postage paid on the 5 I ordered. Curious to see how my oil is at 5K, had a first change at 1100.

Rick, like you I change the oil and oil filter once a year in the Spring using Redline 5w30 with a RP 20-820 oil filter. I only put on about 3-4K miles a year. An expensive oil change for sure, but once a year ain't so bad...

Damn some of you guys sure don't let the seat cool off much, lol. If it was a little closer to 4000 miles it wouldn't bother me to change it,but at only 2300 miles since the last oil change last April,i'm having a hard time getting under it and draining the liquid gold Redline out of it,lol.
Thanks for all the imput guys,it's very appreciated,i'll be the first to say,i'm a dummy when it comes to oil compared to most of you guys.
