2016 Big Horn 4x4 Hemi 4wd, 77k miles. I’ve been using full synthetic and, except for one OC at about 6500 coast to coast road trip miles I’ve changed at 5k. Time no issue now, but it seems about a year is extent I’d leave oil in there. Reason: it’s a good excuse to get it on a lift, do a thorough check underneath while the oil is draining out. Things tend to dry out with low use; it’s meant to be driven. Oil’s still pretty cheap. You can get quality synthetic 5w20 on sale for around $5/quart and a quality filter for about $7. Don’t cheap out, just spend the money up front.

Yea some of you guys definitely got more money then me,a lift up here in Canada is only for the rich guys, lol. I got a cement floor, 6 pairs of ramps, 5 floorjacks, and a creeper, but no lift, lol. Not sure how many times i have to draw you guys a picture, but a good quality synthetic 5W-30 oil like Redline is 20 bucks or more a quart in "Canada",and a set of the bigger 30-8A royal Purple filters my truck uses are close to 20 bucks each up here in CANADA.Man some of you guys really gotta pay more attention to my posts and figure out i don't run 5W-20 and i do spend money on quality oil.

Once again,i'll post this link as it looks like some of you guys have missed it.Please pay attention to the size of this $80.00 jug of oil,i need a little over 2 of them to do a oil change on my truck. This is the Amazon price for Canada.

Red Line 15305 5W30 Motor Oil - 1 Gallon Jug: Amazon.ca: Automotive

And for the guys who don't know my truck, here's a pic of what i run for a filter set-up so you can see that i have to buy 2 expensive filters to do an oil change.

It does not matter what people think because there are three ways of thinking and three ways of doing things up here. The RIGHT WAY, the wrong way and the Canadian way. Ditto for doing things but it often seems it is always the Canadian way things are done and that is the same as wrong. I have info from a chemical engineer years ago that I was able to CHECK MYSELF as I worked in refineries a lot and on shut downs, accessing oil crackers and all manner of other implements in the refining process.

On those two pieces of info I decided the brand of oil to use. I decided what grade to use based on the opinion of a man who taught equipment/auto lubricants in college. He also raced cars , built engines and owned many types of Dodge vehicles in his life. He has a 1963 Dodge with a push button transmission powered by an original Hemi 426. I do not know what model of car it is but only that is a Dodge. Maybe a Valiant. Not sure. But that 426 sure pushes it along.

On his counsel I decided the grade of oil to use in my 2008 2500 hemi stick 6 and I am well over 300000 km on that work truck which has been used for towing, hauling, heavy loads as well as touring on my winter trips to the USA.

My oil is run so long I will not tell anyone because they would freak though I do change the oil filter halfway through the duration and run synthetic top grade oil. Currently it is 10W30 but this summer I am going to 10W 40 Quaker State on the counsel of the afore mentioned expert.

My oil pan was starting to flake and rust a few weeks ago and a master mechanic neighbor with a shop offered to change it. He had to RAISE the engine to slide it off and install an OEM one. When he got it off he looked at the inside and my own inspection offered the reality that it was CLEAN, that is, no sludge, **** or impurities on the inside nooks and crannies.

So that proved that it is not the length of time you run an oil, it is whether or not you provide adequate filtering and use top grade oil which I have always done. I expect this engine to go at least half a million or MORE MILES, not km and I expect to be halfway there end of this year.

The truck works hard but it is driven without abuse and one trip to the Pacific west coast from Blaine Washington to the San Francisco round trip was over 12000 MILES.

My info is NOT a guess, it is a carefully and thoroughly researched exercise in common sense and expert opinions. Careful what you listen to, I listened to two experts and did my homework hands on check. I have not been disappointed in the results.

Says not available, and there's no free shipping to Canada by Amazon.com. By the time you pay shipping/duty/border fee's/taxes,that $9.81 is closer to 20 dollars Canuck then you'd believe. Did you not see the link to the Amazon Canada site i posted above, that's what buying off Amazon.com is gonna cost you by the time it's sitting on your front step up here. We pay basically double what you guys pay south of the border for anything we buy off Amazon.com. Not sure why you guys can't understand that,lol:emotions122:

I use AMSOIL 5W30XL engine oil in my 2007 57L Hemi, and AMSOIL recommends a yearly change no mater what mileage is on the engine. My interval is 5,000 miles or 1 year whichever comes first. Due to my driving less, I change my oil and oil filter on a yearly basis.

W1, if the was an award for the cleanest truck underneath, you'd be a run away winner. You sure you don't have a lift? Lol

Spring and Fall. April / Oct. here in the Heartland.

Amsoil SS. Amsoil filter.

This run has nearly 8000 miles due to a death in the family and emergency trip to Louisiana.

I'm not concerned about that Amsoil having 8000 miles on it, the next batch is in route.

Yeah, Mopar used to sell an unlimited miles/unlimited years maxcare service agreement but just ended it a couple of years ago.
Basically mimics the 3/36 coverage but with a $100 ded. (in my case) per visit.

For $2450, I considered it a reasonable gamble as I tend to keep my vehicles for a long time.
Damm wish I had that ! I got the 6/100000 $100 ded

I happened to get in on that lifetime maxcare right before they dropped it. I'll be using it for the first time next week...exhaust manifold. The service manager (who thus far has proven to be on the up and up) told me about a guy who's had over $50,000 worth of warranty work so far over the years and counting. (I suppose he could be exaggerating, but probably a sizable chunk of change nonetheless) Considering the nuisance factor having my wheels in the shop, I'd rather have the warranty and not need/use it than need it and not have it. My warranty set me back $3k with a $200 deductible, but I plan on driving it until the wheels fall off, and if some of the nifty bells and whistles quit working, so be it...as long as it gets me from point A to point B. (PS...the service manager also said as long as I keep a log of my oil changes and receipts my warranty will still be effective in the event of a serious issue...knock on wood!)

Wild One, sorry I insulted your sensibilities. You asked a question or opinions. I provided mine. Sorry you’re still on the ground on a piece of cardboard; I’ve done my share of that. The lift I referred to is at my dealer-they use my oil, my filter, do the service plus a complete check underneath and above for $13.95. With a smile and courtesy. That’s more than you seem to be capable of, Chief.

I don't usually let the dealer change my oil,and i prefer to wiggle things like u-joints etc.,and have a look see for myself, lol.I'm reasonable up till about the 10th guy, telling me i can buy oil and filters cheap in "Canada" . Quoting US prices to a Canuck starts to **** us Canucks off after awhile. Seems like no matter how many times i said i was in Canada, some moron would still quote US prices,so pay attention David, and learn to read better. I said i was in Canada "several" times by the time you felt you had to contribute your wisdom. Plus i also said i don't run cheap oil and i have dual filters on my truck, which you also seemed to miss. If you want to insult me ,go right ahead, but you should learn to open your eyes when you're reading,as you never did pick up on the fact Canadian pricing is almost double US pricing.
I run nothing but Redline full synthetic and Royal Purple filters, the oil runs me right around 20 bucks a quart, the filters are also close to 20 bucks each, and i run 2 of them,it's close to $200.00 Canadian to change oil in my truck Mr David.

It seems as if people see three or four words of a post and then start puking bs. Or maybe they can only comprehend a few words at a time? This is an on going thing in about 80% of posts. I know I should not expect more , but I keep wishing.

Here lately I’ve been doing mine once a year because only about 5,600 miles is all I drove it from October 2019 to October 2020. I might have a few more miles on it by the time October 2021 comes around being that maybe Covid won’t screw with our vacation plans this year.

This last change I did switch to Amsoil
SS 5w20 with their 25k filter so I’m hoping my oil analysis this fall comes out a little better than the Pennzoil Ultra Platinum did. The last one said my iron content was still a little high so hopefully the Amsoil and better filter clears it up a little.

I am about to do the oil change on mine and it was last year this time that I did it ... Actually March 24th of last year is when I changed my oil lol ....

But if I was to be driving my truck a lot more or if it was a daily driver I would go ahead and change the oil every 3-4k .... sucks that the prices are that bad for oil from amazon for Wildone but you have an oil drain plug right ? I would check some of that oil and see how it looks, if it is not dirty you could go another few hundred or 1k ....

Isn't that something? 4-5k miles in a year for me. Down from all time high of 44k a year. What a life.

My daily driver has been a 1993 toyota corolla lol with over 350k miles and still runs like a champ ... so I only drive the Ram on weekends lol ... love it
