Oil change light

So I changed my oil with amsoil on 3-18 with just shy of 50k mikes. Today the msg come on to change oil. My question is does the truck read the oil or just because it's almost 3 months. I bought more expensive oil so I didn't have to do it every 3k miles. Any info would be appreciated. Thanx.

My oil indicator came on after 3800 miles (start miles:2200, end miles 6000) during a six month period. 90% city driving (stop and go). I used Pennzoil Platinum.

3 months does seems short for Amsoil. How many miles since last oil change? What type of driving? I assume you reset the oil indicator in the truck after the last oil change.

It's only been about 2500-3000 miles. Yes it was reset after the oil change. I do drive hard but when talking to amsoil they said there signature line could go 15k or 12k hard driving. I wasn't going to wait that long was going to do another oil change around 7500 miles or the end of the yr.

reset and run it again the older ones are based almost soley on miles driven.

That's what I was thinking or some kind of internal clock. Just didn't seem right.

Yeah I have to do the same with mine Im not really going to worry since i track miles.

Not to thread jack but how do you reset your oil change light? i recently got my oil changed and the light never went off.

turn key to run, do not start, press gas pedal three times with no more than 1 second inbetween presses then start the truck.

They also count start cycles.

On my 2014 I can reset the oil change display right from the display screen.

So I should be good. I just need to get my oil changes on a warmer cycle so I can do it myself. It was too cold last time and when I due again it will be dead of winter.
