Any chance you might try a Fram FE2 Corey? We can't get them up here, but they sound like a decent filter, and i've been curious if they'd be worth trying to get a few into Canuckastan
I'd be open to trying that if I can find one. Isn't that the one that's a Walmart exclusive?

After a 2000 mile tow with our camper, I changed the oil in my truck and cut the filter apart. I used a Mopar 899 because I knew I would be changing it around 3000 miles or less and I had it laying around. That was a BIG mistake.

I cut the filter open to find a 1/4" tear in the media. I then proceeded to tear a huge chunk put of the media with 2 fingers very easily. I don't know if it was the 255⁰ oil temps that did it or if it just defective filter but I had one more that is now in the trash.

So yeah I will never run one of these in my truck ever again.
This has me worried.
I'm not sure what to do. I'm here in Dubai and my options are limited. I'm not sure of there are any good aftermarket filters here. I've heard that Bosch filters are there in the market, but I'm not sure if there are any for the 5.7 Hemi. I change my oil and filter every 3000 miles and when I go to the parts store, all they have are the Mopar ones.
I've used this 4884899AC all the time. Its the larger of the two compatible with the Hemi - of which the other is 4892339AA.
If someone was forced to use Mopar filters, what would be the correct one to use?

Right and that was my first thought. The average person would have pulled it off, thrown it away, and never knew there was a serious problem with it.

I cut open EVERY filter that comes off my truck. I figure if its starting to eat a cam lobe it will have visible metal in it.

I went back with a SRT filter, I've had good luck with those in the past and they always look great when I cut them open.
What is the part number for the SRT filter? Maybe I could locate it over here.

I'm bigging to lose hope in ANY manufacturer still building quality product.

I mean, guys are cutting these open and more and more are bad, so what are we gonna do anyway? We can't can open our way to a good filter as they all go down the drain.
This issue is one advantage that I enjoy when replacing the oil filter on my wife's 2014, 3.3L Kia Sorento. It's a canister unit!

See if you can get the SRT filter, its PN 5038041AA. I've used them several times before and they always looked great after being cut open.

Can you get anything Wix XP?

Yes, Fram Endurance FE Oil Filters are only available through Walmart. I ordered half a dozen and inspected each one for complete punched hole openings in the center tubes.

Somebody reported their FE oil filter had poor construction in the forum a while back. Supposedly these are all made in the US. Anyway, I chose the FE after a Project Farm test report. I posted that a while back.

What's this, now? Is Fram discontinuing FE? Or has the contract expired and they selling everywhere?

FWIW I just checked (online) and the Walmart nearest to me shows both the FE Endurance and the XG Ultra Synthetic currently in stock and on the shelf.
FE is $12.97, USD
XG is $8.97, USD

And it looks like they have it in the original (smaller) size and the larger size, based on the 5.7L Hemi.

All indications lean towards the FE line being discontinued and not sold elsewhere. Walmart has been slow rolling the resets and my local Walmart was changed over a couple of weeks ago for the new 20K mile rated Purolator LX series of filters in a Gold paint can that is using the FRAM numbering format. There is also a new supplier for the Mobil 1 filters (Premium Guard) and they seem to be way better quality than the outgoing ones but they are Asian made and will vary by SKU (Vietnam, China & South Korea.

Not one of the better youtube videos on filter build or testing, but it's early. Hopefully a couple of our faves will step up and give it a real test/review soon.

One thing nice, and probably by sheer chance, the filter in this video is the LX10060 which is the OEM (smaller) size recommended for the 5.7L Hemi, so we at least get to see our own filter opened up...

Wal-"mark" where I reside, still has the FRAM FE and XG on the shelves. I guess it's just a matter of time when those are pulled and get "shelved".

When the new Wal-"mark" Purolator 20k oil filter hits the shelves here, I'll pick one up and cut it open for a look see.
