Is this Srt filter better then the larger wix xp 57899xp filters?
The SRT filter has a higher bypass rating than most other filters made for our trucks and the media is specifically designed to handle that without starving the motor of oil. The media is supposed to be synthetic but everyone I've opened seemed to be a synthetic blend media. It was designed for use in the Hellcat/Demon motors (and some Vipers I think) that will be revving high for long periods that would open the bypass valve on most regular filters.

So its not necessarily "better" than a Wix XP 57899 just different specs. Essentially its overkill for our trucks but I like the idea of the oil being filtered more and bypassed less, even if the micron rating isn't as low as some of the synthetic media filters out there.

So, I’m curious…. What is the size difference between the SRT filter you’re talking about to the Mopar MO399? Is the SRT the same/close to the same size as the MO899/57899 Wix (XP)?

And does the bypass valve open up a lot in say, the Mopar MO899/399 Wix (XP) 57060/57899? I’m just trying to figure out why or if it’s really that much of a concern with that much unfiltered oil flowing through the engine enough to use essentially a racing filter with a higher-psi bypass. I’m not criticizing what you’re doing, I’m just trying to learn why because who knows, I may want to try that SRT filter.

It kinda sounds like to me that worrying about a bypass valve not letting oil flow though when a filter element plugs up isn’t a concern with this filter if it’s micron rating isn’t the same as those other filters.

Are you planning on putting a lot of stress on your HEMI engine?

Drag racing?

Pulling heavy loads?

Hauling heavy loads in the bed?

Imo, if not, the oil filters you mentioned (MOPAR MO899/MO339/WIX XP) are sufficient enough at you trucks recommended oci.

Maybe if your looking for an excellent alternative other than the oil filter of the recommended OEM, the Royal Purple 20-820 has been referred by many folks here in the oil filter thread. jm2¢

See if you can get the SRT filter, its PN 5038041AA. I've used them several times before and they always looked great after being cut open.

Can you get anything Wix XP?
SRT can be had via Amazon. I don't think that Wix is available here. I've just heard that K&N, Purolator and Bosch are available locally via Amazon.
How are these brands compared with the SRT.

Of those, I feel Bosch is the better one.

Just be careful getting filters or auto parts on Amazon, they have a reputation of having counterfeit parts....

Yeah, I have no doubt that’s a good filter but due to my lifetimewarranty, I’m probably just gonna stick with either the non-XP version of the Wix 57060 or the Mopar MO399 the book calls for. I have a while to decide being that I just did an did an oil change so here in a couple months I’ll make sure I get one of those oil filter openers ordered so that I can properly open up the Mopar OE filter before I decide if that’s what I’m gonna run from here on out or the Wix OE alternative.

I've been using the large diameter Bosch 3410 on the wife's Durango and my Ram for years.
I'm thinking that the powers that be, might use an old shaving products tactic, where they depict the baseball player running up to a base after a hit, and the reporter asks how they get such a smooth shave.... except ask for an endorsement for their favorite oil filter! ;)

not very good info on their site such as what media it is, unless I missed it. Priced like cellulose.
With a micron rating of "18 Nominal, 40 Absolute" and no listing of size, probably cellulose. Baldwins unless application specific, tend to be bare minimum rock catchers. Very few of their filters also will have silicone ADBV.

Baldwin (Parker Hannifin) does not market a "Good, Better or Best" line of filters anymore. It is just the one line when they dropped Hastings and Casite lines back in 2023. Baldwin concentrates on the fleet maintenance crowd rather than individual consumer market.

My Service Procurement Team still labors with this now when cross referencing filters for our annual generator services for our clients!

Even more critical when when oil and fuel filters are on units of 200KW and more!!! (especially prime power applications!).
(if you've ever had to deal with 2-stroke Detroit's you'd know exactly what I'm talking about, overall! ;))

The USA made consumer retail oil filter market is dominated by basically two parent companies. "First Brands" owns FRAM and Champion Labs and "Mann+Hummel" owning Purolator and WIX. Both have slid down a proverbial poop hole in terms of quality with consolidations and penny pinching. Baldwin, Donaldson and Fleetguard are for the most part too obscure, not price competitive and not readily available. More and more, I am looking to the Asian or European made filters for my filtering needs.

Such as? What brands are European and Asian made?
For Asian, Premium Guard EX line. They also do private label for a bunch of other parts store brands.

For European, Hengst and Mahle but you have to research exact application part number because they may globally source outside of Europe for a particular application. Also, their media and efficiency numbers are hard to come by but their build quality is top notch.

I looked up those Premium Guard filters. Seems to me like the PG2222 would be the better choice being that it filters down to 20 micron and it’s not bad priced on Amazon for about 10 bucks. Can’t find the PG2222EX on Amazon, though. Does it really matter that the non-EX is made of enhanced cellulose while the EX says it’s made of synthetic blend? I do my oil changes every 5,000 to 5,500 miles so is an extended life filter really necessary especially when it looks like both Wix’s and Premium Guard’s EL filters only filter down to like 25 micron?

Car Quest Premium (Blue) oil filters at Advance Auto are made by Premium Guard and would the the equivalent of the Premium Guard EX line. Also mentioned earlier, if your Walmart has done a reset of the Mobil 1 filters, they are Premium Guard made also.

Edit: Here is a CarQuest Premium I cut open last year:
