I wonder if Champ filters can't use the Champion name because technically they are championlabs and not champ labs, but Champion auto parts is much older then champion labratories, probably all trademarked up from way back. It would be real interesting where those are made, I think maybe not champ labs even though they really look like champ labs.

According to some random college study they are the same, but I find it weird there is no mention of champion filter on championlabs website, but they do market champ filters.

Maybe the "college study" was wrong, lol.

That's why they have a low price point, I think eventhough it's a blend, that could be a real contender.

It will be interesting to see one cut open. Can then compare the parts quality to the Tier 1 filters like RP, M1. Filter medium and particle rate will also need to be known. From what I have read and seen, the filter industry is going through change moves at the moment. Champion Labs appears to be making and painting more filters for more company's that used to make their own. Like the the recent change in battery manufacturing, the economics look like, if you have high capacity to produce you can offer the competition a private label filter that is no different than 4 other private label filters. Shall see. The thought of all or most oil filters being made in Mexico does not give me quality comfort.

One thing I’d like to see on this Champion oil filters is better threads. Comparing it to a K&N you can see the difference is thread count. But looking from the top the K&N anti drain back valve is blocking the inlet holes, the Champion is wide open full flow. Filter rating is 20 microns on the Champion. M1 is the same way with the anti drain back valve blocking the inlet holes.
I really want to find an oil filter that has it all!
Note: I’m referring to the smaller oil filters.

I've heard the painting process is better at Saltillo but I don't think mine is too bad. There is a spot that has a vertical run in it that looks like a door crease (3" tall) on passenger side but I got over it. I don't like how soft the paint is though. On every Chrysler product I've owned the top coats have been soft and the primer very strong. Not sure why they can't make the top coats the same way. I have several marks from rocks on the side panels that are not dented, just deep scratches. Annoying.

Whats your guys opinion of running a Oil Filter without a built in by-pass?

Donaldson DBL7349 probably a ideal fit for my 6.7L CTD besides the Stratapore.
This awesome filter supposedly contains No By-Pass!

Many reports via the internet: of this filter being so efficient it has been known to plug up only after a few thousand miles. Granted this is only he said she said reports.

Our cams are starved at idle, using a filter with no bypass would even make that worse, I wouldn't do it ever.

Made in Mexico? I’m always a little cautious with Mexican made filters. That and no bypass valve is to much of a risk imo.

I wouldn't run a filter without a bypass.
