Towed a trailer yesterday and my oil temps got to 230 but no higher. Mobil 1. Do I need a oil cooler?

I was going to post this.

I just took my first road trip in the hemi and it was 85-89* outside and my oil temps would stay at 215* and once I saw it at 217*. Is this normal? I wasn't towing anything.

I thought they would stay close to the coolant temp. Kinda worried me.

It just seemed high. I might do a cooler eventually

In a perfect world you want your oil temp to stay close to coolant temp. This will also help keep Copland temp down.

Mine always stay right there with my coolant temps when I'm not towing. Strange that y'alls are higher.

Travelling 130km/hr TO pick up our trailer our oil temp was 206. Travelling 100km/hr uphill with a bit of wind towing the trailer home it was 221.
Have you pulled your VIN window build sheet to see if you have the factory tow package with oil cooler? (we do)

I never tow and mine is usually sitting around 220 Fahrenheit after 20-30 minutes of highway driving.

Unless you have an aftermarket oil cooler, or maybe an auxiliary stock one, the oil temp will be roughly the same as the radiator temp, as that is what cools the engine, and the oil won't be any cooler than the engine it flows thru.

This is the first hot day we've had here so far this year...supposed to get into the mid 90's by late afternoon...and I'm gonna be doing about 40 miles of (mostly) highway driving. So I'll be keeping a close eye on my oil temp. If I notice anything strange I'll post it up here.

I found this on the Z forum

Pretty cool, wonder how much it effects the air hitting the radiator.

Derale Tube-Fin Engine Oil Cooler Kit w/ Spin-On Adapter (Multiple Threads) - Class III Derale Engine Oil Coolers D15551

I LOL'd, hard, when I saw them using white teflon tape on the fittings.

That's a no-go right there. It also tells me they have no credibility.

The oil to air cooler would likely be more efficient than the oil to water cooler - but I really don't like the simple hose clamps to keep your oil, well, internal to the engine.

I've used Teflon tape on my oil pressure gauge on my Grand Prix. Been mine for many years now.

NPT thread? You didn't need any tape.

If you've been fine with white tape - you also would have been fine with *no* tape.

Petroleum products will eat the white tape.

Take a look at the pic in this thread and then talk to me about oil temps....500 miles of this and it ran like a top. Diesel oil will go into the 300 plus range. Not towing and mine will be plus or minus 20 degrees from the water temp.....The tranny coolers on the 6 speeds are amazing.....
