I'm planning on some pacesetter LT's soon, questions about everything behind them. Since I cant seem to find anyone with them to show me, how hard is it to mate up the existing exhaust after the Y pipe? Will the cats fit? If not I can run without them, Does the Y pipe have the upstream O2 bungs? Is this something to be done in the driveway or should I make time at work to have it on a lift?

Thanks.

You can open up your stock cats and weld them into the kit or go with high flows or without them. My ORY kit had o2 bungs for the rears just needed to add 1 more for my wideband. The y goes back a ways then just tie into your muffler and rear pipes.

The Pacesetter y-pipe slip fits over the header collectors, so that is very easy. From there, just mark where the y-pipe meets the factory exhaust, make a cut at that spot, and either clamp or weld it to the Pacesetter Y. The header collectors have bungs welded in them for the front sensors, but you may need to add bungs for the rear sensors depending on what you choose to do with the cats. You can either open up your stock cats and weld them to the new Y, or grab a pair of Magnaflow high flow cats. Running without cats is always another option, but you will need to have your rear o2 sensors turned off to prevent throwing a check engine light.

This is a job that can be done in the driveway if using clamps. If you can weld, then it is even easier.

You need a custom tune to disable the rear o2 sensors.

I know several people running 3rd gen hemi rams with no cats and they arent getting any DTCs. Im not good at welding yet and dont have my own machine but I can add a slip joint there if needed.

Bigcountry- you say the ORY comes with the rear bungs already in it? in addition to the collectors having the front bungs?

But thanks for the enlightenment. Its not the factory exhaust on it, the previous owner has what looks like a 3" in dual 2.5" out flowmaster but its too soft. I'm not looking for suuuuper loud, my jeep has that covered with thorleys straight into 3" into 18" glasspack into turndown...

You might get away without a CEL if you run some non foulers on the rear sensors, but it is not 100%. On my 03, I would have the code pop up every couple months when I was running without cats, and I even had the non foulers.

Is it really worth the 130 bucks for the ceramic coating since I live in AL? it never snows, no salt, nothing ever rusts here.

On a mild steel header, it is well worth the extra for the coating. I was living in Dallas, TX the last time I installed a set of uncoated steel headers on my truck. Dallas is far from the coast, it very rarely snows, and they never salt the roads. Within 6 months, they were a ball of rust. If you look up coating prices locally, most shops charge $250-$300, so being able to add that option for only $130 is a great deal.

Does the coating hold up? I was not very happy with the coating on my thorleys for my jeep. After 2 years its really flaky and ugly.

My cel came on about 2 weeks after my header install. With non-fowlers.

even if it comes on it doesnt really bother me as long as I know what its on for. And I'll just get the rear 02's turned off in my tune when it comes time for it.

If you have to deal with emissions checks, you will need functional cats.

Technically it is also a federal offense to remove them (it's a federal emission system).
For many people, it's not a concern, but it's a good point.

not just to remove them, it's technically illegal to move them from the stock location.
