Painting mirrors

I have a 13 white cc express and I'd like to paint the mirrors but just the back cover piece not the whole mirror.

I believe I read some where that you pop the front mirror piece off by pulling it out and then there are screws that you can remove and pop the back piece off.

Is this true? I'm scared to start pulling the front mirror piece out and start breaking stuff.

If you pull the top of the mirror towards you, it will "pop" down and you can get to the screws behind it. I'll admit that it was a bit scary at first hoping not to break something, but they really do come right off easily. I Googled it and found a pic on the net showing how it works. Sorry that I dont have it now, but it will work. Tilt the top towards you, grab the sides and give it a gentle but firm tug. Be sure to post pics when done. I did mine and it made a big difference on the appearance of a stock express mirror.

Lesson learned, grab as close to center as possible because those mirror pieces are very fragile. Also get some WD40 back there with a straw if you can.

The first time I disassembled my mirrors I broke one. The good news is that replacements aren't horrible expensive.
