I shifted into 4 low, and now i can't get it back into high gear.
I tried alow rolling forward and backwards on ice but no luck.

I can force the shifter into 2 high and hold it there and drive, but if i release pressure it starts to grind.

I have 20 miles of dry pavement between me and my house and no one to tow my vehicle.

Trans in neutral? Crawl under the passenger side and make sure the vacuum lines are still connected

That won't be it because the transfer cases are mechanically engaged in these trucks, not electrically. Are the vacuum lines still connected? No holes?

Rock, stick or some type of debris have your linkage hung up? Hand an old front wheel drive car that a rock bounced up on top of the tranny and wedged itself between the casing and the selector lever. Couldn't put it in park.

Let this be a lesson to young mechanics... always check from the body to the problem in a line to find whats wrong.

After 3 hours of laying in the snow checking vaccume lines and plugs, i decided to take of the linkage and noticed a bolt fell between the shifter and the body and blocked it from moving.

Got it fixed, keep it simple!

Words of wisdom right there.. live and learn.

Glad you got it fixed.

glad you got it fixed, but happier you followed up and let everyone in on the solution. A lot of the time, people leave us hanging, and we don't get to hear the resolution. Thanks for that.

Though its probably a 1 in a million chance of that happening to anyone else. Maybe a quick google search will show this thread and help someone just like you guys tried to help me.
