I'm old school and prefer a V8 in a truck, so I pick Hemi. I would prefer they redesign the Hemi to eliminate the MDS, make the cam/lifter disaster a thing of the past, redesign the exhaust manifolds and eliminate eTorque. Those systems/features caused more headaches than they solved.

I initially had the same opinion about it. But consider this...It's a plug in hybrid with a gas engine range extender. It will have a 26 gallon fuel tank and is projected to have a 690 mile range. Because it's a plug in hybrid you can commute to work all week without using any gasoline. But you can still use it to drive across the country without needing to plug in to charge the batteries for 30 minutes to an hour each time you need fuel. Other than the complexity, which is definitely a concern, I don't see a downside to this if Ram gets it right. Maybe I have my hopes too high lol. For now I'm very interested. Once the real numbers are released I'll re-evaluate. But on paper it seems almost too good to be true. maybe it will be.

I joked with my wife that this whole time all it took to make an EV truck a viable realistic option was a V6 gasoline engine and a 26 gallon tank, lol. Who knew? lol

I would be more interested in the Hurricane, both the 4 and 6, if they were not GDI.

@Burla you must have a serious case of Hemi-foot, as my 2015 2500 with 6.4 and 66RFE got better mileage than you are seeing 13-17 empty. It got 7.5-8.5 pulling a 41 foot toyhauler at over 23K lbs combined.

For anything other than fuel economy, the 6.4L/8A has been the best truck drivetrain I've ever had. I don't need more power for anything I do, it sounds good, it drives smooth without hunting gears, and they've seemed to be pretty durable long term.

I'm still agnostic about the Hurricane, and hope it becomes a proven option long term as well, but I'm happy with what I have.

My only hesitation about the Huricane is the unknown about longevity. The other weaknesses are known, so they must be excepted by the proof of a purchase. Of course there are strengths as well. Once and if proven, I celebrate that. However, the movement towards DPF's is in full bloom, when and if that happens, just another hit to people looking for simple. I see a lot of problem in other ram forum, hopefully this is just a new engine thing and those are being solved.

I had the opportunity to test drive a 2025 Laramie a couple days ago. I didn't really notice a difference in acceleration from a stop between that and the Hemi powered Limited we currently own. Both can get out of their own way and neither is what I would consider that fast. But both are definitely adequate. The SO hurricane equipped Laramie did feel smoother but I'm comparing it to a 5 year old truck with AT tires. The one thing I did notice is that the rear wheels broke loose a couple of times when I got on it while traveling 20 to 30 mph or so. But when accelerating to pass they both speed up at about the same rate. The dealership didn't have anything on the lot with the HO hurricane (which is what I really wanted to drive) so I can't speak to that. But I would absolutely go with the Hemi if I was buying today and was able to make a choice between the SO hurricane and the Hemi.

This is my 3rd Hemi 2gen,4gen, 5th, only one I had problems with was my 5th gen W cracked exhaust manifold, took care of that W aftermarket new ones, I've always been into prevenative maintenance and these hemi's for sure need it, after joining this site I've learned allot on what to do to maintaine this machine, again lubrication is key on OCI, type of oil &filters and idle hours and low idle rpm's are the doom of these engines, I'm keeping this truck til it doesn't run anymore, I don't like the new tech and whats to come of Stellantis future!!!

It's not just Stellantis, all car companies are adding more and more new tech to their vehicles. Failure could be the result of any car company that doesn't keep up with it.. There are plenty of younger buyers who want the latest technology. Honestly I couldn't care less about Stellantis. It's not happening anytime soon, but the best thing that could happen to Dodge, Ram, and Jeep (musn't forget Chrysler while it still exists) would be to break away from the sinking ship that is Stellantis.

Welp, 70% of you are getting your way. Hemi is coming back to ram 1500 leaked by employee.

Kuniskis rehired in Dec, applies to NASCAR in Feb, those who watch NASCAR know the manu and governing body don't allow turbo's in nascar and want the similar engine in the vehicle they race. Will Ram rise from the ashes like a phoenix?

This is kind of old news. It was confirmed a few weeks ago that the Hemi is coming back for 2026 models. Even my local dealership is encouraging people to wait until the ordering opens up for '26 models if they're at all interested in the Hemi.

I wanted a V8 but the only one available in a top of the line pickup was GM. The Denali left a lot to be desired especially with the 6.2 issues. The Ford Platinum V6 twin turbo has issues as well. Would have considered it if it had the 5.0 Then I looked at the Tungsten liked the interior more than the rest. Was leary of the Hurricane motor but the test drive hooked me. The 10/100 warranty sealed the deal. I do miss the Hemi sound, yes but the HO is a different driving experience in my opinion.
