I was hoping to at least be at the low end of the factory rated 18-23 mpg statements. I expected to get more MPG than my father's 03 CC 5 spd auto with 100k miles on it.
I very much appreciate you taking the time to put up your numbers.
Fuel Economy
According to that, there aren't any 2015 Hemi Rams that are rated for 18-23.
I do most of my driving around the Chicago suburbs, and I typically get 17-18mpg. CCSB 4x4 3.92 axle. And my EVIC is consistently accurate +- 0.2mpg. My average will be closer to 15.8-16.2 if I'm driving consistently aggressive / rush hour traffic.
Worst I've gotten over a tank so far was 14.2. Best I've gotten was 24.0. (24mpg on the calculator and EVIC after a 200 mile 95% highway drive at 60-65mph)
If you idle a lot, that will KILL your mileage. MDS isn't/cant be active at idle. So there's all 8 cylinders eating gas and not taking you anywhere. I always shut my truck off if I'm waiting for a train to pass, or if I pull up at a friends place to pick them up (unless they're already waiting outside, of course) ect..
Use cruise control as much as you can under most circumstances. Driving up and down the (small) hills around my area, I do not use cruise control. I hold the throttle at a reasonable % and let the truck bleed off some speed on the way up, because I'll get the speed right back on the way down. This is debatable and not always practical when there's traffic behind you (don't be "that guy"). I'm sure that statement is a candidate to be debated to death if any of the "smart" people here feel inclined. But it's as simple as this: Low fuel usage up the hill, and Low fuel usage down the hill. Versus: High fuel usage up the hill, and low fuel usage down the hill.
Coast as much as you can - there's no point accelerating from 40 to 50mph just to stop at a red light 1/4 mile later for example, or waiting until you *have* to hit the brakes in order to stop at a red light.
