Greetings fellow Ram owners!! I have a question that's been banging in my brain the past 3 weeks. I have a 2016 1500 sport and was looking for some rumble and better breathing. I stumbled across a few intake manifold forums and was curious as to how much since it makes to run a ported manifold for 1, to couple that with a ported throttle body (87mm), include some shorty headers and a cat back exhaust. I'm not trying to go to the strip or break any speed records, just want that mean hemi sound and maybe a slightly quicker 0-60 lol thanks

Ported intake probably would not help without headers/cam.
I'm guessing they port match intake runners to head intake gasket.......not sure size on the throttle body size....stock is 85mm

Then they say on the ported TB that it still has the stock 80mm bore which would defeat the purpose of porting the TB side of the ported intake.

The stock 80mm throttle body has shown on many applications to be a restriction on these engines but with Modern Muscles new venturi-like design, airflow through the stock throttle body has been increased without sacrificing air speed (like straight bore 85mm and 90mm throttle bodies) allowing even more power while being a direct bolt-on part.Modern Muscle High Velocity Throttle Bodies are brand new CNC ported OEM throttle bodies.

I personally went with the Fastman oversize TB....... a 84mm butterfly with 84mm bore tapering to 85mm to match stock intake.
But then I have cam/headers & tuned.

Matt at Moe's Performance(a preferred vendor on this forum)has recently been testing various ported manifolds on the track to see what type of gain they would give. He might be a good one to talk to about what success they have had. He also sells performance parts such as CAI and headers so he might be able to fix you up with those items also.

If one was to upgrade to a ported 5.7 manifold what else is needed? Or should i say what else is recommended to replace/upgrade while this is done? I too am not trying to win at the strip but would like all i can get without serious modifications. I may eventually install a new cam but for now im just interested in mods i can do myself. FYI, ive already done the usual headers, vararam, ported TB, catch can, exhaust, thermastat, clutch fan delete, JG 93 tune, performance coil packs, brakes and pedal commander so this is probably the last mod on the list i can do myself. Looking for any advice in regards to DIY performance mods.

Looking at your list, you already have the supporting mods needed save a cam. If anything go for it and get it retuned and I’m sure you’ll pick up some decent gains.

So you think just to do a direct swap? No replacement or upgrade is needed on any of the parts involved like injectors? Im not to familiar with the mod so im trying to gather as much info and/or guidance i can get. I know i probably need to replace gaskets and such but dont know much about anything else.

As long as it's a ported 5.7 truck manifold,it's a basic unbolt/unplug R&R swap on your 5.7.The 6.4 manifold swap requires a bit more like extending wiring and swapping to a 6.4 intake box ,and injector stand-offs or longer injectors

I’m still hard pressed to believe a ported manifold provides that much power. Personally, I’m waiting to do a 6.4 intake manifold swap and ported TB.

I’m hoping the tracks open up soon enough for me to get some times before I swap, so I can provide some FBO results with and without the 6.4 IM swap.

Does anyone know how difficult it would be to port yourself? I see you can purchase 5.7 manifold online fairly cheap. If its as easy as it sounds may be a fun project as well as a self rewarding modification. I know you can purchase already ported and then return your intake for the core but ive heard that they sometimes reject manifolds and then your stuck with the cost.

That polymer would be difficult to cut with normal porting tools.....loads up
CNC with sharp geometry fluted end mills best way......I bet with a fixture setup & program with tool loaded in machine already setup.......machine time under 3 minutes.....easy money......LoL

Purpose of porting though is for better flow so TB base would have to be 88mm or larger.
If TB base larger than intake you would need spacer to match TB base to ported intake.

Picture my head and everything you just said floating by above it.

I was hoping it was as easy as these guys on youtube with a dremel and a free weekend but reading your comment i may need to stick with just pressing the gas pedal for more power.
