I'm currently doing a retrofit and have found that I am regretting not doing my homework on this project as I should have.

I bought everything from trs and starting to regret this purchase. Everything except the mini h1 and shroud. But I digress.

Can anyone confirm that 15+ (non projectors) are using pwm signal to:
1. Low beam
2. Hi beam
3. Fog light
4. Parking
5 turn signal?

Here's what Ive found in my research:

1. Stock Low beam maybe even fog light flickers randomly. I've notice this on my non projectors. This is due to pwm signal dropping out. So no canbus load resistor needed. I found xenon depot sells a pwm module which does not require a separate harness for constant power. I'd like to confirm if the hi and fog are also using pwm.

2. I have morimoto x-vf switchbacks installed currently with only a load resistor on the turn signal circuit. Nothing on my parking lights and can confirm that they flicker at startup and also have "bulb out warning".

3. I rather not use load resistors if the circuit is actually pwm. It may work but is totally inefficient.

TRS sells their 15+ harness with two load resistors running parallel for each low beam. Very disappointed. This is the lazy approach and I will probably either return it or sell it at a lose.

I tried to do a search on here for pwm and didn't get anything. So this is a warning to others, I wouldn't buy the trs harness or ballast.

In your opinion what is the correct way to approach this?

I'm looking into the hylux canbus pwm ballasts. Startup is rated at less than 4A. From my limited knowledge on how this ballast works. It is able to use the pwm signal directly. I've read accounts of the lights flickering before the alternator kicks on. I'm hoping this method works.

I'm running ddm plus canbus ballasts in my low and fogs. Plug and play and work great.

I'm pretty sure the fogs are also PWM. I put LEDs in the fogs on my 2015 and they would turn on and off randomly. I added PWM modules and the problem is gone.

Im running Led's in my fogs without canbus issues
Mine is a 2015 but it's an early 15.

I beginning to realize my truck mimics a 14 more than a 15.

Every light on the 15+ ram's runs through the CANBUS system(confirmed by headlight revaluations via email, they have tested a LOT of lights on the Ram). I think the only exception to this might be the bed light. i just replaced my low beams and all turn signals with LED's and had to use resistors to get rid of the "light out" error. the only lights that i dont really care about are the reverse lights so they didnt get a resistor. There are a couple of LED tag light bulbs that have resistors built in but you have to be careful since most are a LOT longer than the stock 194 and wont fit in the housing.

I got a reply from xenon depot. Low beams are pwm, fog are pwm, turn/park are probably pwm but the power consumption of the incandescent bulbs are so small that it may not matter. They only need the resistors.

I would like to reiterate there is a difference between canbus and pwm. I've notice that everything is blanket under canbus. Its two separate problems when upgrading to non oem bulbs (hid and led).

Canbus senses the current draw activates bulb out warning and can shut power down if it thinks there's a short or high/low current draw. This problem is fixed by resistors.

Pwm is a method to vary voltage output to bulbs. This is what's causing flicker and also causes loss of power due to low voltage.

With pwm modules you fix the pwm issue and also canbus bulb out issue. Therefore you do not need resistors if you use canbus module.

Resistors waste power and generate heat. I am awaiting a set of pwm modules to try to run them on my turn/park circuit. I haven't found anyone going this route yet. I would rather run pwm modules than resistors if given a choice. The real culprit in these 15+ is pwm.

Where'd you buy the module?
