Radio turnoff

Hey guys, just wondering if there is a way to switch my audio turn off. Right now if the vehicle is running and i switch it back one (so dash is still lit, but engine off) it kills the radio *edit also kills power to the windows

Can this be changed to when the key is pulled out of ignition or to when door opens?

Not on the PCI bus vehicles. This became an almost standard thing on CAN bus vehicles though. My Magnum does it. My truck is just like yours, kills everything the moment that key goes off unless you put it to the accessory position.

If you’re creative and know your way around relays, you can set up a latching circuit using relays for the radio that uses your drivers door switch to un-latch the relays. Basically would work like the newer trucks, once you turn your ignition on, the radio will stay on until you turn off the key AND open your drivers door.

It can be done. But it’s one of those things where you need an understanding of electrical circuits to do it. It would be kind of hard to walk someone through it step by step. If I get bored today I may try to draw up a diagram or something lol

Actually I found a diagram for doing this. It isn’t “hard” to do but it definitely involves a little bit of wiring and some 12v electrical knowledge. But this will do what you’re trying to do.
