For anyone who has been getting a rattle at start up for around 5-10 seconds, this may help. I have a 2016 ram with 20k miles on it , started to tick only every now and then at startup. I change my oil every 5k miles with high quality oil not the cheap stuff from auto zone. Always used k&n oil filters as I liked the built in nut to tighten it in hard to reach spots. Recently started to get a valve tick on cold start only every now and then. I looked all over for anyone else and didn't really find a good solution. Changed my oil filter thinking the anti drain back valve may have just had a flaw or something. At least in my experience the k&n oil filters have a softer anti drain back valve then the mopar ones. Switched to a oem mopar oil filter and have yet to have the truck tick on cold start. Hope this helps anyone that can't figure it out.

One of the more knowledgeable oil people within the members will be answering soon to advise you how to tell if it is an actual tick due to oil choice or if it is more likely from a broken manifold bolt.

Could a 2016 with 20,000 miles already be suffering from a broken exhaust manifold bolt?

I heard this rattle this am start. It lasted for only 10 sec and i have about 27k on my 2016 hemi. I have ONLY taken it to the dealer for oil changes. Only because they were free. This is deff not an exhaust leak. its a lifter rattle. Sounds to me that on start up the oil has not pumped up enough to fill the hydro lifters and they rattle some. it was deff a sound i didnt expect to hear from a new truck. I guess only time will tell.

Definatly not a broken stud or manifold problem as it didn't do it ever cold start and I looked all over for any signs of leaks.

In some cases a simple Filter switch or oil viscosity change will make a world of difference.
Even switching oil brands if researched can create changes in sound or engine noises (High Pressure Heated friction points).

The manifold bolts are not spose to be a problem on the new trucks

By chance did you bring it up to operating temp the last time it was running or was it only running for a short time? Mine will do that if not running long and then shut off. Then started again awhile later. If it was driven and reached normal operating temp the last time, never does it. It won't do it for 10 seconds, more like 3-4 seconds. Still doesn't sound good on a truck under 10 000 kms. But I guess it's fairly common from what I've heard. I'm going to try a different oil.

I believe him 100%, my engine ticked on Puro synthetic filters but didn't on Royal Purple filters. It ticked in factory oils and was quiet on Redline oil. Whatever works, do it. Old school wrenchers aint gonna believe it matters, until it is one of them that some of these changes fix. Burla=reformed old school wrencher.

For anyone wonder I'm running schaeffer's 5w20. Run this same brand of oil in all my sleds atvs and other cars and have yet to have a problem. Sled had 8k miles before being rebuilt (2stroke) and ran a diesel brand new to 300k on the same oil.

^^I have read & heard Chrysler is ignoring the problem.

Thus my question: Will a straight through design muffler swap help avoid this issue? Anything to help those Hot Exhaust gases escape more quickly!

The stock (Tank) muffler is very restrictive.

What's a set of headers cost 300-$500. Depending on what you buy. I plan on swapping them out any ways bc they already all rusty after one winter of driving. But I'm pretty picky with rust , I spray my undercarriage every oil change with oil. Nothing like a little bit of forced upgrades. Should go well with the muffler delete.
