I recently purchased a 2010 ram 1500 in getting a howling noise between 52 and 58 mph. I found on dodges web site where it shows the rear pinion nut recall has been completed. My question is how long is there a warranty on repairs on recalled repaired, I'm wondering if this howling is due to improper set up by the mechanic the recall shows completed in Feb 2013 so 3 years in not sure if I will have a foot to stand on in this but could be worth a try. This is something I should of knowtice on the test drive.

Edit: unpon reading further I have found the recall was issued Feb 2013 I don't know when it was completed

You should be able to go to a dealership and they can tell you when it was completed.

dealer can tell you. most of the time on warranty you usually get a 12mo/12k mile i thought.

Ok that's what I'm looking for. My neighbour is a tech and he has the vin and he's going to ask around, and pull it up in there system. He's fairly new at it so he doesn't know off hand all the a anwsers, I'm just being impatient

If you'd like to PM me your VIN, I can tell you when the recall was completed on the vehicle.

My neighbour ran it today at work and it came back to almost a year ago and that they only did the retaining nut and the guy he's working with said they will probably cover it.

It's really hard to say if they'll cover it. If all they did was the retaining nut then the nut hadn't come loose and there was no issue. The nuts installed as a preventative measure. If your issue is pinion bearings causing the noise which is most likely, it's not likely related to the recall. However if the recall wasn't done properly then it may be covered.

You'll have to take it in and have them diagnose it to know for sure.

Great. Please let me know if there's anything I can do to assist.

the recall entails installing a pinion nut retainer/locking collar and verifying the factory nut has not loosened and is still whiten factory spec.

if the issue is caused from normal wear and tear on bearings and not the pinion falling into the diff or pinion bearing beating its self to death from being to loose (i.e nut coming loose) chances are it will come out of your pocket for repairs.

I had the same thing happen about two months after the recall was done. The bearing was going bad and they did not cover it. The service manager wanted to, but Ram said no dice.

Got my fingers crossed it's at the dealer now.
