I got the idea from this forum and recently did it... it's a real nice place that will cause a hell of a lot less mess. Oil on the bottom of the pan was from my hand not the pan leaking ... real simple and my first time with AN fittings and braided hose.1df1aa7cc412a08cc76b9eb609f084d2.jpgd764dac758364bc3813b36a781d8f0d5.jpg

I did something similar. I got tired of the drippy mess and I'm not ok with the cast pieces, fittings or hose in the TransDapt kits so I put together my own setup.

Chris/Glock: Both excellent installs!
Huge Thumbs Up!

If I was keeping my Ram I would have done this already. Yours looks like it should have been done from the factory.

I’ll get them fixed tonight when I get home. I’m slowly converting all my how-to’s from PB as requested.

You found a better hosting site than PB other than setting up your own domain.? It seems most dont let you link pics at all.

This looks like a well done setup...do you have a DIY or even just a parts list for it?

Thanks!

I’ve been able make imagur work but their format isn’t nearly as user friendly as PB was.

Im interested as well.

It looks like a billet adapter instead of the cheaper cast adapters that come in a lot of the kits. Definitely a quality setup.

Thanks for the positive comments. I wanted something more robust than the cast pieces available in the common kits and also a larger filter. I used an Earls billet oil filter adapter #1119ERL. Although the picture in the catalog shows it being black anodized, it is not. Just bare aluminum and it has a 20mm x 1.5 thread and the oil filter has 22mm x 1.5 thread so I had to open the hole up and retap for the correct thread. I did a little port blending in the holes then had it black anodized. This piece has two 1/2 NPT female threads for the -10 adapters I wanted to use (total of 4 Aeroquip AN to NPT Adapter Fittings #FBM5009). For the remote oil filter mount, I used a billet Earls #2178ERL which has a 3/4-16 nipple to allow the use of larger oil filters such as the Fram PH8A. It also uses the other 2 AN to NPT adapter fittings. I had this balck anodized as well. For the elbows, I used 4 each of Russell Full Flow -10 Hose Ends 613180 and a little less than 3 feet of Russell ProFlex -10 Hose 632160.

Has anyone noted the Oil temperature before and after this mod? I'd like to lower mine about 10-15 degrees when towing. Moving the filter away from the engine might lower it some.

I haven't noticed any drop in oil temp since I did this. I'm thinking about adding a cooler to drop the temp some.

My buddy and I have logged temps with just the remote oil filter, no coolers, and we're both about 10*F lower than the stock filter assembly.
That's good to know. I'd like to get that oil temp down, since it hits 260 on occasion.

I love this idea. Question though... by extending and relocating the filter with longer hoses (albeit braided and same diameter) does this lower oil pressure or is the added distance the oil travels really negligible?
