When retirement is about to roll around, and you take the wife to an RV show so that she can see how nice the new 5th wheels are.

Out with the old:

In with the new:

You get yourself a nice 2024 RAM 3500 with an HO Cummins. Can't wait to tow with her the first time. I traded the above 2020 RAM 1500 with 5.7 Hemi for it. Definitely a different driving experience. The crew cab is better suited for us too now that we have a good sized dog. I thought about special ordering a 2025, but I got this for $13k off, and they gave me a super fair amount for my 1500. I kind of like the idea of the tried and true AISIN, and I'm an old Jeep guy that's use to those 30k tranny/diff fluid changes anyway.

Congratulations, that should do the trick for a retirement truck, for your trips.

That's definitely the plan! Thank you.

Congratulations on the retirement and the truck. Best of luck!!

Thank you!

That is one sexy truck. I love the color and the front end. And that beast will tow anything. Congratulations!

It's up to anything I'll throw at it for sure. I didn't set out looking for "night edition", but I think it looks good with that Patriot Blue.

Beautiful truck, use it well and congrats on the retirement.

Thank you! It's been a long time coming. I hope I have the health to enjoy the road for a good 10 years. Got my knees replaced last year, so I'm ready.

Excellent truck!

I went 2500 and 6.4 Hemi for my smaller travel trailer. You'll feel secure with that 3500 and Cummins!

I definitely looked at the 3500 6.4 Hemi, but we want to head out west, and I was worried about extreme grades with 16,000 pounds of fiver behind me. For a small tow behind, I would have more than likely gone gasser in a heart beat. Thanks!

We took her on a 100 mile road trip yesterday, and it's definitely a stiffer ride than the 1500 was and seems slowish compared to the Hemi, but man, that torque is addictive. Any RPM and any speed, it's just there.

The only other diesel I've had was a 2006 Jeep Liberty CRD. I loved it for towing our 18' runabout boat. It was great on the open road and pulling it out of the water was a breeze. I'm sure I'm about to have a similar amazing towing experience with a 5th wheel.

Thanks again everyone for the kind messages.

Coming from a 2500 HD diesel, you have what will serve your needs best. There will be an adjustment period. The torque is more important than speed. You will just learn to have a longer lead time to cross traffic/merge into traffic with the proposed trailer. In my truck, I pulled 2 draft cross horses for my daughters and the food and supplies for 4 days at a time. Keep up on the maintenance it will pay off in the long run. The ride quality is a big jump, you will feel every bump in the road, once you get used to the difference you will not really notice unless on really rough/uneven surfaces then it will serve to remind you slow and steady will get you where you want to be and your trailer will be happier for the slow and steady pace.
Enjoy the new truck and keep at least a quarter tank of fuel at all times.

Slow and steady is definitely the way to go when towing. Thanks for all your thoughts.

Great looking rig, happy retirement and may you have allot of enjoyment and use from it. remember to adjust your tire air pressure front and back when loaded and unloaded it will affect the ride quality.

They are all at 80 psi now, and I know I need to make adjustments. I've done some searching already, and have a decent idea of how I should be rolling when not towing. Thanks!

Love the black wheels and grill and body colored bumpers, etc. IMO, trucks have way too much chrome on them these days.

My 2020 was had the Sport trim, and I really liked the same color bumpers, etc. Definitely enjoying the "black out" theme quite a bit. Thanks!

Congrats on retirement! Beautiful truck!

Thank you!

Good luck with the truck and your pending retirement. We have a ‘16 3500 with the 6.4. It has the Aisin and 4.44 gears. It pulled our 30 ft fifth wheel with no issues but the rpms jumped when pulling up steep hills. The crew cab is going to feel like an RV on its own with all that room. Let the good times roll.

Plans change for sure, and you never know. I'm hoping to live a ripe old age, but longevity doesn't exactly run in my family. I try to take care of myself and do mostly what my docs say, but at the end of the day, who knows?

Good luck with the truck and your pending retirement. We have a ‘16 3500 with the 6.4. It has the Aisin and 4.44 gears. It pulled our 30 ft fifth wheel with no issues but the rpms jumped when pulling up steep hills. The crew cab is going to feel like an RV on its own with all that room. Let the good times roll.

I really considered a 6.4. $13k cheaper for one thing! I knew we'd be headed West in our travels and some of those mountain grades can be killer for a gasser. I had a 34' Motorhome for years that had the Workhorse 8.1 motor. I miss those big CI gassers, and wish we weren't stuck with the high rev smaller displacement motors of today. The Hemis are definitely capable but can struggle with steep grades.

Nice ride. I’ve owned my “retirement truck for about seven years and over 140 k trouble free miles, last year to Alaska from the east coast 13117.9 miles at 21.5 mpg (I have the receipts), 2016 Ram 1500 Big Horn Hemi 4wd. MOPAR lifetime warranty.

Interesting - I had the same motorhome! The GM big block and Allison 1000 tranny was a wonderful match.

Yep - the mountain grades suck gas like a sponge and hold @ only 45 mph. It can do it, but if I were to live there or travel there often, that is diesel country for sure. My 6.4 is just right for my 7k pound travel trailer. Any more and I'd get diesel.

It would be such a tough decision without all that exhaust emissions crap on the diesels now days.

Thanks! Shame they stopped offering those "lifetime" warranties. Those were the days.

I worry about that as well unfortunately. I guess deleting is always an option, because our house is in a non-emission area, but I'll roll with what I have and see how it goes. I really like to keep things mostly stock if I can and am big on regular maintenance.

If you're in the U.S., you're in the EPA area. Can't do it legally, shops won't do it anymore. EPA crackdown been going on a year or two.
