When shopping for my 19 Wagon I saw one truck with a rear bumper retractable step, looked pretty sweet.
Anyone have this setup, likes -dislikes? Part number?

I have one on my 2017, Amp step in the drivers side bumper. Wish i had them on all corners of the box. Makes a huge difference getting in and out of the bed. Only downside I see is if you do serious off-roading. It will limit departure angle. Other than that i think its a must.

Bought it used cause i didnt want to spend the money for a new one. There is a off brand that sells them on amazon for like 30% better price than the competition. Can’t remember the brand. I don’t know if it will service your year also. I’m sure somebody more knowledgeable will chime in.

Yes, AMP Research. This thing was a godsend. Don't have to worry about killing myself getting out of this beast. See picture left rear corner.666c5e043fd842a4773d3ee9c9cb8e5c.jpg

Just don’t wheel it hard. That thing is toast lol
Agree, anything hanging down is potential toast. Hopefully, w/ the Thuren 3" and the 37" Toyos I have on order I will be standing pretty proud. If it gets destroyed, I will consider it bumper protection.

That’s exact setup I have. Last week was hitting rear bumper lol... and front bumper and rocker panels lololol. It’s a normal 2500 but with thuren lift and 37’s so you get the idea. 37’s let you roll over a lot more than my 35’s did

Nice bumper trim job. Liking that Thuren bumper option, but [emoji383][emoji389]. Need to get me some white knuckle sliders first.

The factory ones are even tighter to the bumper

The factory step RAM Part number 82215842AD does tuck in much tighter but looks to have less surface area to step on compared to the AMP Research step. I would prefer the OEM part, may be smaller but has a much more finished/stealthy look while offering more clearance.
Does anyone know if the OEM part will fit a 2018 PW, seems every site I've checked has a different answer?

Here are some shots of my 19 with the OEM step.

Couple thoughts, it feels very heavy duty like any other part of the truck. It retracts hard and fast enough to completely obliterate your hand if it was in the way. It's large enough to get one foot on it without thinking about placement and the rough bed liner coating grips really well. Overall it sits below the rim of the bumper about 0.5" and the small handle/kickstand is the only part visible.

Something to consider. There was a recall on them in 2019 so make sure the one on the lot has been updated with the new version. The old one was jamming up into the file tank in accidents apparently.

The 19-20 has a different bolt pattern and the dealer could only get me a 1500 oem step. It did not fit. They were on back order (July-September 2019) so I bought an Amp instead.

That step is the first thing I destroyed on my 19. I have debated replacing it and decided not to. Did save my bumper though.

I tried to have the dealer install one on the PW I bought yesterday. He said no problem. I got there (7 hour drive) and inspect the truck prior to delivery and notice no step. He arranged to have the shop guys install the step but they must of had the wrong one as it interfered with the sensors and had to remove it. Is there a different one for the PW or were they bolting a 1500 on there?

1500 can not fit. My dealer did the same thing too.

I ordered my new 20 PW 6 weeks ago and it showed up today. After it was built it was on shipping hold because they were out of the steps for the bed utility group. I told them to ship it without the step and they are supposed to let me know when they are back in stock.

My truck was supposed to have one installed from factory, but was removed at dealer prior to purchase because of recall on the step. Now I have to wait for ram to release the updated one.
