Has anyone used this oil in the past? I've read on other Hemi forums it reduces the notorious "tick"? Schaffer's 5W20.jpg Schaffer's 5w20.jpeg

This uoa looks real good in a hemi, and the forum has done a lot of testing in ticks and moly, so zero doubt to why hemi's respond to this formula at 320ppm. The 7000 line up has real good moly as well.

Read the redline tick thread and the lubegard biotech tick thread, both have polls. Moly seams to be one of the keys to this deal.

Hello, Since I bought the truck in 2019, I have ran PUP 1st, Amsoil 2nd w/ Lucas Oil additive, Redline 3rd/4th and now Schaeffer's all in the 5W20 viscosity. I have used a couple of different brands of filters. Since most are about the same price, I have been using the K&N 1017 model. I never really noticed much difference with the Amsoil and PUP. The Redline seemed to quiet it some, but had a left exhaust manifold replaced and its been quiet since. But using oil with moly in it, seems to make a little more difference. In colder climates it seems to be nice to have that extra lubrication in the engine.

I think the last change lasted about 8100 miles. That Redline was nice, but the website I used to get it from wasn't working to submit my order last weekend. Only to find out, that Schaeffer's was sold at local NAPA store. The look they gave me when I asked about that oil... They stated that due to it's price not a lot of people request it. I think it was $9.29 a quart.

That's not too bad of a price really. Still cheaper than Amsoil or Redline and I don't think Amsoil even has that much Moly in it to start with.

Thats not a bad price. I do redline here in Canada and I pay depending what else I'm ordering its between $17 to $19 quart.
Then use a amsoil filter or fram xG synthetic thise filters are wither $16 or $19.50

You have some good taste in oils, any of those 4 would be great, seams like you have your favorites. This forum has done much work on lubrication and the hemi, not just a hand full of members, but a room full. From what everyone has done here, if you were gonna run an additive, might I suggest lubegard biotech and not lucas. I think Lucas has it's uses, mainly in really old engines with huge tolerances and you are trying to extend the life just a bit. But it seams like additives that increase the good additives you find already in oils have good results long term.

PUP great oil but the 5w30 or 5w20 doesn't have the moly level like the 0w40 does.

Amsoil great oil and now GREAT moly levels as well similar to srt oil and I think 200+ ppm moly. Check used oil analysis's.

Redline, a true high performance oil in every way with no considerations to having low additives like all 3 of the other choices. Not only do they have the most moly but the most zinc and many other additives as well. Basically reldine told the api to kiss their red ****.

Shaeffers the oil that was at the center of the creation of BITOG and they wrote the moly bible literally and have always been committed to moly, always several 100 ppm moly, most of the time 300+ppm moly.

So if you ask me the oils you choose really don't need additives, just maybe PUP because their moly level is average, so adding even 10 ounce lubegard which is 6 bucks can boost moly by 100ppm. Amsoil, Redline and Shaeffers I cant think of much reason to add an additive, unless you are dealing with hemi tick. All in all I'm glad you posted about Shaeffers, I think if if there are oils that we didn't test enough during our hemi tick testing years it would have been shaeffers and motul. Keep the forum updated on how your shaeffers works for ya, good stuff thanks.

Yes, please keep us posted. Shaeffers may be a good alternative if it helps keep the engine quiet. Do they have a 5w-30?

Burla has his favorite, but he's not biased like a fan boy. Always open to new ideas and formulations.

He's more like a mad scientist........

I like the preventive on my 19. On my 4th gen 16, it started to get it around 65k. Since I can get it locally I've been sticking with it.

I run Schaeffer's in everything I own from my 6.4 hemi, farm tractors to our twin 525 offshore powerboat. Excellent oil.

Supreme 9000 since its available in 5w20. The 7000 appears to be a teriffic oil for a syn blend. Msds showed i believe 20 percent pao. I may be mistaken but iirc its 20 percent and 9000 series is 70 percent pao in 5w20 atleast

I ran one rotation of Shaeffer's back late 2019. Seemed okay but I think I had maybe a couple extra start-up tick events more with it compared to using RedLine.
If forced to choose, the RedLine has run quieter and smoother IMO. But again, I only gave the Scheffer's one round.

Dang, wish I would’ve found this thread a long time ago. After reading some of the comments here and after seeing the Blackstone report that @Burla shared, this stuff has a lot more moly in it than even what Amzoil signature series 5W 20 had when I ran it and got a Blackstone report after. It’s moly content was only 175 ppm.

I guess I’ll find out within the week or next week how my Blackstone report comes back on the Schaeffers I ran. Hopefully this Mobil 1 extended performance won’t be a downgrade.

I’m not even sure where the closest Napa is to me so a year ago when I changed my oil and put in this Schaeffers 9000 supreme, I ended up ordering it online and I think I paid about $70 for 7 quarts. But yeah, like I said in my above post, I’m really anxious to see how the Blackstone report looks because I was surprised that the Amsoil‘s 5W20 signature I ran before the Schaeffers only had 175 ppm of moly and this stuff is over 300, even on a 6000 mile interval. Not only that, the TBN was like 4.3 whereas the TBN on the Amsoil was only 3.3 on a 6,098 mile interval.
