I picked up my truck in July/Aug 2020, 2020 Ram Classic Warlock QC 4x4 5.7L, but during the initial paperwork the dealer pointed out that the roof panel had two dents where it was damaged on the carrier, probably lowered a section to far. Dealer said that they would fix it and because of where it was and the extent of the damage the body shop would replace the skin.
I picked up the truck a few weeks later and drive it for a while before I had to take it back in in October 2020 because the inner headliner is vibrating and the map lights are blown. It gets fixed and all is good.
Fast forward to March 2022 and as I'm cleaning my windshield I jump up on my running boards and notice that the paint where the damage was has a big scratch, but upon closer look, its not a scratch, but a crack in the paint.
I call the dealer to get this fixed, "We'll get it in at the end of the month becomes, April, becomes May, after repeated calls I can get it finally the first week of June.
For my own curiosity, I run a simple fridge magnet over the room panel and it sticks everywhere, but the place where the damage was originally. Come to find out, the body shop never replaced the roof skin, they slapped down some Bondo and painted over it.
The dealer has agreed to repair the paint issue and they don't use this shop anymore.
Here's the deal, the dealer is claiming that they can't treat it as warranty because they can't go back to the same shop because they stopped using them as a vendor, fine, that's not my problem, they are going to fix it anyways, but I've asked for a loaner or a rental because I can't be without a vehicle for 7 days. Dealer claims that because they can't do it under warranty I need to find my own transportation. I reject that argument because the repair wasn't done right the first time, a lot of haggling and he asks me to meet him half way and cover half the cost of a rental. I again refuse, now it has to go to his manager. So here I am with a bad paint job on a 2 year old lease with 16k on the odometer which needs to get fixed and a dealer that is not giving me a loaner to fix their problem. Given the car market I don't know if I'll be leasing again in a year or buying this truck.
Am I in the wrong here for wanting a loaner/rental on the dealerships dime?
Should the body shop have replace the roof skin? I doubt that they even worked the metal to reshape it as much as was needed before skimming it too. In one of the attached pictures with the rib on the left you can see the raised oval under the split where the Bondo doesn't even appear to be flush with the panel.
This is a Rhode Island dealer and if I don't get resolution from the dealer I need to go to a regional rep, how would I find that out?
Thanks everyone!
