Unclear to me if there should be another layer on top (@ErnieBoling I noticed you did another layer of foam after the MLV?)

If you insist on 100% coverage the CLD will get pricy but luckily that is not required. MLV you need 100% no matter what, though.

I did do an extra layer of foam on top of the MLV, but simply because it was dirt cheap and I have tons of the stuff lol. The MLV I have is 2lb sqft; twice the thickness of what you can buy. That probably helps to make up for the short comings of the Peel&Seal. I still have enough of that to do another 3 trucks as well I believe lol.

I like how that article comes to the same exact conclusion that SDS did, while referring to SDS in the conclusion

So another member has a great thread on a deadening job he did on his rig. To quote another member, he went "Balls to the wall" lol. Here is a pic of the roof. I'm already scheming on how to cram as much insulation in there as physically possible. I live in south east Texas, and the sun and heat can get pretty brutal here. At 6'4" tall, my head is really close to the headliner, and the heat can be pretty intense when you first get in and for a while until the A/C gets things settled down. I'm thinking about putting the Dynamat on the roof as pictured, then the extra super thick MLV I have layered on 1" maybe more CCF in there between braces, then use some flat strap perpendicular to and attached to the braces. Thoughts?

I would worry about suspending the MLV because if what is holding it ever lets go, you can probably kiss your headliner good bye pretty quickly!

Indeed. I am thinking flat metal strapping with a layer of butyl to stop metal on metal, attached with self tapping screws into the braces. Looks like there is a healthy amount of metal to bite into there. Something like this maybe

There is this link a guy did several years ago. It is very long, but very interesting on what he did for testing out cld. On the other hand, if you want to see the results of what's good, what's crap, etc., look on the last page. Granted, there's a few out there that aren't mentioned, but I'd take the testing results for what he did. Hopefully this can help you guys out a bit on deciding what's good and what's not.

It's funny because I remember at one part, SecondSkin gets on there and tries to debunk his methods. But they are real time, real life testing. Nothing super fancy, but you get the jest of it.

Well, the Kno Knock Kolossus stuff is pretty good, so there's that option as well. As far as second skin, I think they're way overpriced and in fact, on another forum, I had mentioned the link I had posted and how their stuff didn't measure up so well, and then someone from their company said something to me about the guys testing methods. I gave them my opinion about it and they didn't respond. Needless to say, I'll never buy their overpriced crap for the testing the guy did and plus the guy from second skin was a **** about it. So they can count on me not spending my money there. I'd look at Kolossus, NVX, or even the Noico on Amazon. They're really cheap and people that have bought it seem to like it. Many options for a decent price if one searches enough.

Thanks. I have been looking at the cheaper alternatives too. Noico was interesting but it seems like people either love it or hate it for one reason or another.

Kolossus looks like a real deal product, more expensive but gets good reviews (and IIRC in the test you linked to it came in the top 3)

The real convenience of Noico is Amazon Prime..2 days, "free" shipping. Cant beat that.

If you look at the table of pricing I posted, Noico seemed to be pretty much in the middle of the road in price per foot. May be the best overall value.

BTW I drove to work today without my rear seat installed (working on Katzkin covers with the seat inside the house). Truck is so loud its not even funny. So even just the seat helps absorb some noise.

If I go the Noico route, I think I can have everything here pretty quickly (thank you, Prime). But Im not sure there is a quick way to get MLV.

I know when I do mine, I'll do the doors first. Then I'll determine if more is needed in the rest of the truck. But for the doors, since they're so critical, I'd like to use the Kolossus because it's heavy and thick. More support to keep those doors from flexing. And you could get away with 25% coverage with a heavier cld.

Keep in mind, it doesn't do any good to make the doors quieter than the windows lol. My truck is like a tomb, but the windows kill me now.

I might go with @sumgruuvz's plan. I can always pull the rear seas out again if I have to.

Im more concerned with the floors because I want to see if it can absorb some of my 2K RPM vibration. Im not really doing this for audio performance reasons.

Yeah the mlv thing...It'd be nice, but there's not a whole lot of choices of that. And from what is there, that **** is pricey as hell. On another note, there is some cheaper ccf on Amazon for the doors to go on the panels. But how good it is is going to be hard to determine with a small number of reviews. IDK. I know Stinger makes some but it's $45-50/box of 12 sq. ft. I'm not paying $150 for 3 rolls of it. That's ludicrous.
