Single Cab ?

Does anyone own a single cab RAM anymore?

I may be ordering a 6.4 2500 4x4 soon, but most likely will be getting a single cab. Not many of them out there to test drive !

Up north every dealer has one, the always have them available for plow drivers. There is only one person on here with a 2500 with a regular cab that I know of.

They have a lot of single cab 1500's here in TX but I haven't seen a 2500 only 3500 duallie's.

They build what the majority wants so they are easier to sell. I ordered my 2003 and my 2015. The salesman will always try to sell one off the lot, even if you tell them it's not what you want. Order the truck you want and never say "I should have".

I use my Ram for light landscape work and general property maintenance and I thought about a reg cab but decided on the quad merely for lockable storage for tools while still being able to utilize the bed for materials. One of my properties has minimal parking space on a busy road, so doing work there with my trailer isn't really an option unless I pay for a permit to park on the street (no thanks). Ultimately it's about what works best for you.

A reg cab also saves a lot on cost. If I did my own plowing (lots are too small, so I use a snowblower) I would opt for a reg cab 2500 for that purpose alone, but I wouldn't buy a new one, I would shop around perhaps even for a plow truck ready to run with or without a salter.

SouthernBoy - If I did get a new 2500, I too would get the 6.4L for lower buy in over the diesel, and better durability than the 5.7L, as I buy my vehicles for the long haul. Again, it's all about what you plan to do with the truck when deciding on the configuration.

Thanks guys. I currently have a 6.7 QC, but never use the backseat area. Before this thing, I grew up with and always had single cab trucks and never felt I was missing anything to be quite honest. The single cab Tradesman comes up much cheaper when ordering versus the 4-door rigs. Just wish I could find a single with the 6.4 to give it a test spin and see how the coil-overs behave on a single cab configuration.

I live in a rural area and there is zero pressure to buy anything from folks Ive known for 40 years. We all have known each other since we were kids and watched each other raise our families and ours kids move off even. I wont go to the big city to buy vehicles, I cant stomach them high pressure clowns.

Consider yourself lucky then. I've tried 5 dealers near to me and it is the same salesman bs everywhere. I'm on salesman #3 at the dealer I ordered from and he's "ok" so far. Third vehicle bought there because they are the best of the worst.

Consider yourself lucky then. I've tried 5 dealers near to me and it is the same salesman bs everywhere. I'm on salesman #3 at the dealer I ordered from and he's "ok" so far. Third vehicle bought there because they are the best of the worst.

I feel your pain my friend, hope you can find a good one next time you are shopping. Youre right, most of them guys will drive you nuts, totally take the fun outta shopping for a new truck.

My only son moved out 10 years ago and I dont have dogs. 99.9% of the time its just me, and the other .1% its the wife along for a trip to the feed store or something. For me, having 4 doors is a complete waste of money.

But now that I have a g/f who has a 10 yr old boy I'm finding I need to get my hands on a QC or CC truck. Don't think for a minute that would be giving up my single cab.

There has been 3 or 4 times that a quad cab would have been nice

I have a regular cab, and it's what I was always aiming for when buying mine. It's also the second regular cab Ram and third regular cab truck I've owned.

I'm not married, no kids, and no job that requires I haul people. Most of the time, it's just me in the truck, and most of the rest of the time, it's just me and a friend.

If you're having trouble finding them, I'd look around at all the dealers; not sure how it is where you are, but here in the Phoenix area, generally one or two dealers bother to stock any number of regular cabs and other "unpopular" (read: less profit for them) models.

I had a hell of a time finding a 2-door VW Golf TDI with a stick a few years ago for the same reason, but it was the same thing: find the dealer who hoards them. They claim nobody buys 2-doors or sticks anymore, but they went like hotcakes from the two dealers that had them.

That's why I laugh whenever a dealer unloads the "nobody buys (x)" crap on me. Funny how I see plenty of regular cabs on the road when nobody buys them.

If I buy a new 6.4 I will be ordering one built to how I want it, so wont have to worry about locating anything. I only want a Tradesman (no carpet and all that) dont want the XM radio and any of that 'Popular Package' stuff. AM/FM with a simple AUX port is just fine with me, and I prefer vinyl seats to cloth anyway. I will also be adding the 4.10 gear, larger alternator, skidplate, sliding rear window, block heater, factory installed gooseneck hitch & wiring, and I want the manual 4WD selector. Like my current truck I will be putting the OEM Power Wagon fender-flares on soon as I get the truck. Id also like to find a way I can get the same 18" aluminum wheels that come on the higher level RAMs in lieu of the chrome-steel ones. Im still on the fence about clearance lights at top, color and whether to get the 3500 for the leafs in the back. While I realize coil springs for suspension work just fine, Im skeptical of this new design not having enough years in the field. I dont wanna be a guinea pig for the Chrysler engineers.
