So, our "new to us" truck has smoked headlights. We really don't like them as they cut down on the amount of light from the headlights.

Unfortunately they are not just a film that I can peel off.

Is there a way to salvage the headlights, or am I stuck buying new ones? I'm pretty sure that anything that will remove the smoke coating will also damage the lenses.

New headlights aren't cheap and shipping to Canada is insane. EBAY Link

Anyone interested in a set of smoked headlights? :naughty:

You just down played the **** out of your headlights... Then try to sell them in the same post lol.
:Big Laugh: Well... Not seriously trying to sell them, but if someone is interested I wouldn't ignore them.

Can't do anything until I replace 'em first!

I would see if someone local would do a swap. Meet up In a parking lot somewhere and trade even for stockers

I agree with smoked headlights dont look all that good on our trucks, to me it gives the early 90's look when night shade in a can was a hot item

Do you have single bulb or dual bulb headlights?? If you have singles (given your prediciment), I have a set of practically brand new single bulb headlights that I'll give you a great deal on to help you. Just let me know what you have.

A couple of suggestions.

Junk yard, Kijiji or Ebay, swap with forum members

or

Headlight restoration kit? (is it a coating or is the plastic itself tinted?)

Already checked stock in our local yards... no RAMs that new in any of the yards.

It looks like they were coated, but I can't really tell.

I'd do a swap, but shipping is expensive so it would have to be local. Wife shipped a 6"x6"x6" box last year and it was over $30. Canada Post sux.

They're DOUBLE* bulb. I'd take you up on your offer, but shipping would be pretty high. Canada Post likes to put itself out of business.

* Correction - they are double bulb headlights - I'm sure your headlights would still work - just need to get new bulbs to go into them.

Dual or Quad headlights?

Just a quick question...

If I replace my headlights with new OEM style, should I go with single bulb or dual bulb? Everything I read says that they are interchangeable.

Any reason to choose one over the other?

Take one of the lights and scratch a small inconspicuous spot on them. If it is clear under the scratch (meaning they were sprayed) then just take some 2500 grit sandpaper to them then some compound and you will have clear lights again.

If you're gonna go stock use the "Quads", that's the ones with 2 bulbs. All the stock lights a pretty terrible IMO but the quads definitely look better.

I'm sure it's opinion, my dad loved his stock lights but he was coming from a 99 Dakota, I ******* about my stockers instantly but I was coming from a 10 4Runner that had great lights. All I can say is that when my Quads were stock, I always had my fog lights on in conjunction with the headlights.

40 grit would work faster.

IMO

My smoked headlights did not affect output at all. PPG Black and clear mixed. I did swap to the OPT7 lights too, but even stock I had no noticeable difference. Granted mine are pretty light overall.

Just get some different bulbs and call it a day.
