I am at 80k miles. I used my free oil change vouchers at the dealer for the first few changes (bought the truck new 4 years ago). Then I started just doing it at home. I use Mobil 1 5w20 full synthetic and a WIX filter. I change it when the truck tells me it is time (just about always 10,000 miles or so). No noises from the engine and it runs smooth as butter.

One factor for me is that I don’t really work my truck, and the random times I do, I don’t work it particularly hard. Most I’ve used it for is a load of dirt/rocks filling up the bed (I live about 1.5 miles from the dirt yard, so even then it didn’t drive very far loaded down), and once I towed a trailer with 2 pallets of grass on it. Other than that, it is just driven in a city environment, and I don’t typically drive it hard. It does get extremely hot here in the summer, but our winters are very mild by comparison to the rest of the country (except last week, last week sucked in Texas). So harsh environment or hard workin the truck may call for different oil or additives. For my driving style, I see no reason to spend any more money on oil and filters I can’t find at the local auto parts store.

Wild One. What relocation kit is that ? I’m wanting to do the same to my truck. Tired of the mess and stress of getting to that damn filter in its current location. Also, in that pic what RP filter is that you are using and what is the white flexible vent hose being used for?

It started out as one of Transdapts 1227 kits ,that i upgraded the hoses and fitting to -10 (5/8").It uses the older 3/4 X 16 filters (ie: old Mopar / Ford PH8A style filters) which you can get anywhere,i use Royal Purple 30-8A filters on it.The hose is dryer ducting feeding my air box,in the pic with the dual filters i'd got around to wrapping it with black tape so it doesn't stick out as much,at the moment it's routed out to the front bumper on my Sport, but i did pick up a new piece to replace the piece of plastic it's routed through, and one of these days i'll probably re-route it up to the grill area instead. You can just barely see the inlet on the pass side of the lower black valence in this photo

The condensed version of about 10,000 pages of reading is go with 5W-30 Redline Full Synthetic,or Pennzoil Ultra Platinium and add a bottle of BioTechs Lube Guard, lol. If Burla joins in listen to him,as he's researched oils for the Hemi's probably more then FCA's engineers have, lol

I use Supertec synthetic 0w-20 with a high quality filter and change oil at about 70 percent of the life being used on the computer. The 0W on the bottom does way more than one would think for flow at cold weather starting. I think that causes the oil to thin out a bit earlier, hence changing it at 70 percent used, vice 100 percent.

Hello everyone.

My extended free oil change maintenance has expired and I'm due for oil change. So from here on out I'm changing the oil myself. My question is what do you guys use ?

2013 Ram 1500 Sport 5.7
5w20
81k miles.

With over 81k miles should I go with full Synthetic ?

Pennzoil 0W40. Buy it on Amazon. Amazon price checker sends a notice when it's on sale so I stock up

I use 5W20 Mobil 1 extended performance full synthetic and a Mobil 1 extended performance oil filter ... If the Mobil 1 is out of stock where I shop, then I use Castrol Edge extended performance full synthetic ... Never had a problem with either ...

I have been using AMSOIL in every motor (truck, car, motorcycle, lawnmower, weed whipper) since 1984 and have experienced ZERO problems. My performance/MPG goes up when I get rid of the OEM oil.
I have been changing my own oils since the early 70's and I have used probably every oil known to man and I have experienced ZERO problems in any rig. Believe it or not I had a Honda rider that was well over 20 years old and I mow over an acre couple times a week and never had an issue. I used all the left over partial qts of oil at the end of the year in it. figure a little 50 weight from the harly, 0-20 from the CRV, 10-30 from the subaru, and whatever else I had. never mattered the thing just kept on running. Maybe the mpg went up when you got rid of the OEM oil was because it was starting to get broken in.

I use Kirkland synthetic and Pennzoil platinum. Very good results with both.

Lately I've been getting Walmart Synthetic 5W20 Supertech with a fram ultra synthetic filter that's good for 2 changes. All for around $30 Canadian.
