I am at 80k miles. I used my free oil change vouchers at the dealer for the first few changes (bought the truck new 4 years ago). Then I started just doing it at home. I use Mobil 1 5w20 full synthetic and a WIX filter. I change it when the truck tells me it is time (just about always 10,000 miles or so). No noises from the engine and it runs smooth as butter.
One factor for me is that I don’t really work my truck, and the random times I do, I don’t work it particularly hard. Most I’ve used it for is a load of dirt/rocks filling up the bed (I live about 1.5 miles from the dirt yard, so even then it didn’t drive very far loaded down), and once I towed a trailer with 2 pallets of grass on it. Other than that, it is just driven in a city environment, and I don’t typically drive it hard. It does get extremely hot here in the summer, but our winters are very mild by comparison to the rest of the country (except last week, last week sucked in Texas). So harsh environment or hard workin the truck may call for different oil or additives. For my driving style, I see no reason to spend any more money on oil and filters I can’t find at the local auto parts store.
