Thinking about getting my flowmaster out and just put a pipe in its place. Gonna have a guy do it. But was wonding what it would sound like. Im looking for a deep, loud ,mean sound. and straight piping brought me here. I have 2inch piping, 3inch tips. Y pipe. Guy is gonna make a custom Ypipe. Gave me an estimate of $100 for everything including service.
Anyone have straight piping on their hemis?

I have a straight pipe with a glass pack in between and I like it alot. It has a deep rumble when just going down the road and screams when I floor it :D

Seems to me like 2 inch piping would be too small...and might make it sound raspy...I may be wrong though.

You can get a manual cut out for $30 but the studs will rust out after a year or so. Go with 2.5 prob, stright pipes will give you some popping during shifts if your WOT. If you put as muffler in the mix it will prob help drown out the pops.

Not sure about that 100% Kenny. I got straight on mine and no popping during shifts only after bumping a few times. If you are going with a y down to single then cat then y back to dual you could probably go up to 3 all the way but if you are doing true duals do the 2.5

Though I do suggest to cut down on the popping and crackle use rolled tips. Don't use the straight cut ones. The rolled tips really help with tthe crackle and pop for me. Just adding in my .02

If you are going with straight pipes, everyone is going to hate you because of how loud they are both inside and outside, dont expect to have to many conversations in with anyone in there ever, and after a while they just dont sound good and get annoying.

If it were me, ditch the flowmaster, pick up a good muffler magnaflow/borla and snag a cutout. Cutouts run about $100 shipped to your door for the racelands however you can get some good deals every now and then and snag them for around $80 if your lucky.

Cutouts/straight pipes wont give you a deep sound though, they will make it louder and drop the tone a little but not to what you would think. Straight pipes will also give it a raspy sound which sounds like **** IMO.

You can give it a try, see how you like it, real test is to take it for a drive, windows up and try to talk to someone in the passenger seat at highway speeds. If you like it and the loss of lowend performance keep it like that otherwise get a high flow muffler and call it a day. The XR1 that I have in mine is a straight through design, basically looks like a straight pipe, but it cleans up the raspyness to give you a good crisp sound.

With the convetsations, i already cant, because i have the base model which doesnt come with insulation. Not worried with that.

How much was the XR1? Just for the muffler. Already have complaints from a few neighbors driving to school. Can straight piping be illegal on the loundness?

Coulda just been the cam and tune, truck felt and sounded like it defueled at shift and cut timming, adding some of the oddest sounds lol. At WOT if your foot stayed in it your would get all kinds of sounds, if ya feathered at shift you could elm 75% of it. I believe the 4th gen hemis get the same sounds with different exhausts. The truck sounded great besides that, deff got a few odd looks running though.
