I need help deciding between the two options... Stock head unit...

1.) TWO 10" JL Audio subs in JL Audio Stealthbox.

2.) ONE 12" Sundown SA-12 sub in ported Fox Box.

I already have a JL Audio XD600 mono amp.

Which setup will sound better? Also, what kind of LOC is recommended for this?

Match the subs to the box and amp. There are many brands, but if you are stuck on that amp which correct me if Im wrong is not 1 ohm stable, and is 600 rms at 2ohms you will need to get creative. Having 2 under powered high end subs will not be as loud or as clean as 2 matched subs on that amp. Im not knocking the amp, I have the same one, but for big sounds you need to rethink your subwoofers. If it were me, again and Ive gone through more subwoofers than some people have socks, on that amp I would get and brace yourself, Kicker Kicker Comp 12's. They match the amp perfectly, get the single voice coil 4 ohm to get the 2 ohm load the amp loves. Id go with a sealed box as it requires too much box for ported but sealed they hammer.

Thats what I would do with that amp, but if you want to underpower a subwoofer and spend the cash thats up to you.

WilliamS - you have definitely peaked my interest now... I'll admit, I don't have a ton of experience matching subs to boxes and amps, but I have done a lot of research over the last couple of days, and I want to get this right. I thought I had my heart set on option #1, and I found a good deal on the JL Audio XD600 amp, so I bought it. I have not purchased any speakers or boxes yet. Through my research, I was finding that the XD600 was a PERFECT match for the two 10" JLA subs. Here is a copy and paste directly from the JL website:

The Hard Data:

Contains two 10TW1-4 subwoofer drivers in a sealed enclosure. 600 watt power handling. Wired for 2 ohm mono. Some models may require cutting and removal of the underseat carpet and/or carpet padding. Will not fit Standard Cab, '02-'08 Crew Cab, or Mega Cab.

After more research, I started reading about the Sundown SA subs and how good they are. I read a post from a guy who has a single 12" in a fox ported box, and how good it sounds.

Here are the specs on that sub:

SA-12 D2 REV.3 SUNDOWN AUDIO 12" DVC 2 OHM SA 750W RMS SUBWOOFER CAR BASS SPEAKER
Now, granted, this sub can handle up to 750W RMS at 2 ohms. Is the 750W RMS of this sub and the 600W RMS of the amp that much off from a good match?

This sub requires 1.5-2.0 ft of air space in a vented box @ 35hz
The Fox box is 1.8 ft and 36hz vented.

This sounds like a good match to me as far as the box goes.

Am I wrong here, please tell me if I am. Thanks!

Honestly, I've heard the sa's choke in the foxbox. Not enough airspace. I'd probably look into a DC Audio level 2.

Edit: A DC 12" needs way smaller airspace then what the foxbox has ported. But, you could check out the e series or sd series. Air space requirements are exact with the foxbox.

I have a foxbox 10" that I just got. I'm running an RE Audio SCX10 in it, and it sounds way better than the sealed enclosure I had before it. Ported sounds just as good as sealed if done right. These foxboxes are no joke.

I agree with above, the SA is a rowdy sub, but likes its airspace.

If you are doing a single sub, you need dual 4 or dual 1 ohm for the amp to work at 2 ohm. I had an sa10 d4 in a 1.25 cu ft tuned to 35hz behind the drivers seat. Only 600-650 watts and i was happy. Ported box will likely be okay slightly underpowered.
