Greetings Forum Members.

I lucked into a very nice “15” CTD 2500 4x4 w <50,000 highway miles. Sadly, a brother FF died and the wife wanted my wife and I to have & enjoy her...

I like the look where a taller, narrow (road) tire is mounted onto a custom wheel. I’m guessing that the trk. would need to be lifted for wheel clearance. I’m more of a highway driver and rarely tow. An occasional U-haul tandem-axel, <6000# payload.

Can the membership recommend a lift-suspension/tire-wheel package?

What is the (commonly available) tallest road tire available on the market?

I’d also like to maintain or even improve the ride. As an Arizona rat, I’m close to the local business SDHQ. They appear to produce some nice rigs... Talking to them re. a set of Amp power steps. The installed 2-motor set is ~$2500.00. YIKES! Should I work thru them or is there another AZ. shop I should be looking at?

Thx. Forum.

I wanted to go to a taller (35") & wider (12.50" tire on all three of my 2500 trucks. I used a Tuff Country #32909 spacer level kit with the shock relocation bracket. It worked well and I had no rubbing whatsoever. You'll get about a 2" lift in the front using that kit. I didn't really feel any significant different in the ride from stock.

As far as tire size goes there are a lot of choices but I'd stay in the 35" tall range without a lift. You could go to a 37" tire but you will rub at times.

There are a lot of tires to choose from so it begs the question on how you will use the truck. Will it be off-road out in the desert? Will you be towing an RV? Is it mostly highway miles? The answers to those questions will tend to help with a recommendation.

As a comparison, here is the 2017 2500 CTD with stock wheels and suspension:

And here it is with the level kit, 35x12.50R18 tires and 18 x 9 wheels with a +12mm offset:

So if you want a narrower tire, say 11 inches but retain the 35" height then a 285/75R would work well.

What size tires & wheels do you have on the truck now?

AMP steps are expensive. How about some that are simple bolt ons that are fixed in place? Check out NFab for some nice options.

Not sure you need the dual motor AMP steps. I'm on my third truck with single motor and never had an issue.

Take a look at 285/75r18 (34.8") and 295/70r18 (34.4"). Both will work with stock 18" rims and work well with a 9x18 +18 rim with no more than a front leveling kit.

Let me start off by saying sorry about the loss of your Brother Firefighter. Secondly I'd recommend looking into a company like Carli or Thuren for your suspension needs. By utilizing their front springs you’ll gain a some lift but also improve ride quality. You shouldn't need to touch the rear for anything up to 35" tires.

It's your choice on wheels and tires. While one guy thinks his wheels are the sexiest wheels on the planet somebody else will think they’re ugly as hell. Tires are also your call but my advice would be to look at what Toyo has to offer. For some reason our truck like Toyo tires. The balance well, wear good, and don't usually have any radial pull.

Can't weigh in on side steps other that to say I like my regular Mopar side step because it's always guarding my doors from people who like to bang their car door into my truck while in a parking lot.

Good luck with your truck and hopefully it brings your friends wife some peace knowing you’re taking care of her husbands truck from here on out.
