Well for now those arent being made, but my ram got 9 mpg a couple tanks back and the hemi tick issue also sours me. The rav 4 has been one of my best vehicles, so it can look like the new Bruce Jenner if I get 30 plus mpg's and it serves me like my rav 4 served me for the last 15 years Im in. Where I would be out, if they try and get 40k for them which if they build them most likely will. My wife will get a new car someday, most likely what will happen if we will call the rav 4 mine and keep the ram = 2 car Burla. But I wouldn't put the rav 4 pickup in any other category, it will set the mark the day they built it.

my only truck needs are hauling rocks and a 1500 pound trailer, I need 2 loads for a yard of rocks with the ram, so it just doesn't add up for me.

What the hell is going on @ Toyota? They were the epitome of reliability and predictability. Did they send Carlos over to Japan?
With the exception of this place, you can't go anywhere on the internet, or rather say any automotive site, forum or even youtube, watch a review of a vehicle or someone talking about how much he likes his new purchase, without seeing some snarky obnoxious comment from a Toyota fanboy saying "should've bought a toyota".
I've maintained for years that Toyotas are no more reliable than any other vehicle. Its all about the vehicle's maintenance history and the fact that Toyota parts are cheap; which led to this reputation.
Even talking about Overland builds and the fact that people prefer using Toyotas, I see someone purchasing a new Land Cruiser or 4 Runner, at huge expense compared to alternatives, and then start to swap out major components like alternators, radiators and suspension with aftermarket ones from places like "Terrain tamer" and then start to talk about how reliable the vehicle is. At one point I asked a question, "At what point do you remove those Toyota badges off and start putting on Terrain Tamer ones on?"
Then when you talk about Toyota's after-sales service; which I feel is diabolical. They would choose to void a legitimate warranty claim for the most outrageous and ridiculous of excuses. "You took the vehicle off road." "It's a Land Cruiser, it was built to go off road." #RantOver

Most auto manufacturers don't have the reliability they used to have even 10 years ago. Toyota, Honda, Nissan, all used to be pretty reliable in the late 90s early 2000s. Now they're just mediocre. Small displacement DI turbo motors get great fuel economy but sacrifice reliability. Same with transmissions. 10 speed, dual clutch, CVT, etc are all for fuel economy. Even the 8 speeds in our trucks are designed with fuel economy in mind. Simplicity = reliability.

This is what happens when the govt sticks their nose into anything, it goes to sh !t.

And this is why I'm keeping my truck until it falls apart.

This was mommas secret, now with an iron pan she made the perfect stew every single time, I have not had such luck. I have about 10 bags of this in the pantry on any given day. The meat on occasion is under done or over done, but with sous vide just like momma makes it 100% of the time, if the meat isn't soft when you squeeze the bag 5-10 more minutes. I like pressure cooking as well, but this is like the perfect pressure cooking outcome without the pressure cooker. The perfect comparison is it is a crock pot without the extra 5-8 hours it takes.

And yes many benefits to iron pans or cooking it in a pizza oven inside a Dutch oven, but I don't care who you are there will some some sticking and cleaning involved. My wife is like the perfect person in a lot of ways, but unlike rick's wife she could not bake a cookie never less cook a real meal, she just didn't have the gift and was not raised on American food.

SO FAR my Rogues CVT is working fine. I going to do annual fluid changes and filters every other year. That will give me a chance to clean the magnets as well. Fluid temps dropped a good 10⁰ after switching it from what I assume was Nissan NS3 fluid to Amsoil CVT fluid. And it's cheaper than the Nissan fluid.

However it's always in the back of my mind that I'm putting a lot of faith into a metal belt......

I’ll keep my very lowly trimmed optioned 2019 5th Gen Bighorn till wheels fall off. Odo has just over 25 K on it Heck my motorcycle is 19 years old. Has none of the fancy chit they put in bikes now. It is fuel injected and I put in a BT receiver to stream my cell phone over MC speakers. Works fer dis Boird.

They are dropping the prices here on the 25s not sure wanna be Guinea Pig for stuff. Already did that once when bought the 19 when first came out in 2018 here.

They would have give me over 30 for my 19 and drop the 25 to 15 out door and they not dat desperate yet lol. That with trade in my 19 paid off.

Talk my wife into understanding a new shiney thing is often if not always worse then the old musty crusty dusty thing, and my life would be 100 times better. If I was a betting man I would bet the house that the old 09 rav 4 would last her lifetime with less issues then anything she'll end up with. 15 solid years and the only thing we needed was an alt.

@Burla, yep, my wife's 2011 Eclipse has just under 38,000 original miles,
and has never needed anything other than the standard fluids, tires, and
brakes.
I think I've read that 2011 was the last year for that little auto, and it was
one of her "dream cars" since the first one showed up in public, so we'll
likely have that forever.
Likewise, my RAM (knock on wood) will be with me until all four wheels
roll past me on the highway, although service issues are another matter.

You don't have to worry about salt on the roads either, you could in theory keep that indefinitely...

Another reason we didn't pick Honda or GM - both came with mini motors (< 2L) and CVT's. Only Mazda had a reasonably sized 4 cylinder (2.5L) and a normal 6 speed gear transmission.

No, no - it has a GDI single injector. That's why I was talking about staying with PUP rather than just a Dexos 1 oil, because Oil Geek's spectral analysis showed PUP has significantly more detergent and antioxidant additives than the Dexos 1 oil he tested. Remember that?

Well, when you're sooting the rings, valves, injector nozzle, and the oil, with single injector GDI, detergency is super critical to slow the buildup. Along with no more than 5k mile OCI's. Yeah, I saw the talk about Valvoline's detergency, I just haven't caught up to it. Shell was 1st with Pennzoil PUP.

I don't worry too much about these new API SP 5W-30's being very low 30 weights, because the turbo motors aren't getting hammered with towing loads. Yes, they see some load with the AWD and the weight of these SUV's, but still nothing like a 6-7k pound truck puling a 7k pound trailer up hills in the heat.

Mazda mandates 5w-30 with the turbo, and 5W-20 natural aspirated. What does that tell us? Why, the turbo motor has more torque and heat! File under - *duh*
