I would say the Penatstar engines need good quality oil for timing chain wear & components.

screenshot-2023-04-04-100629-png.311048

Can say that about any DOHC engine, is the point.
Doesn't need special recipes and additives to bandaid a major design flaw like the Hemis.

So I finally got some time, so posting this. This is basically for the Canadians. Links below are for the Canadian company.
For Redline oil per quart on US sites it is going for:
Summit Racing - $16.97 ($24.28 CAD)
A member found it for $14.15 ($20.25 CAD) but the reviews were negative on the seller. But someone said another reputable seller had it on sale,
R.A.Hoerr $14.82 ($21.21 CAD)
In Canada I found a store selling it, GBP Performance.
Reg price is $27.99 ($19.55 USD) But sale prices are
$22.39 ($15.62 USD)
$22.11 ($15.45 USD) for 6 or more
$21.83 ($15.26 USD) for 12 or more

They also have Redline SL-1 for $23.49 ($16.40 USD) but on sale for
$18.79 ($13.13 USD)
$18.56 ($12.97 USD) for 6 or more
$18.32 ($12.80 USD) for 12 or more

They do have free shipping, but on things some things where weight comes into play there is fees.
I ended up buying enough oil for 3 changes and 6 bottles of SL-1. I ended up paying $28 for shipping. And the tax, but I don't mind paying that. I asked if I could pay more tax, but there wasn't an option.. oh well. I appreciate the way the gov spends and manages the money, so you don't mind paying that:rolleyes:

Anyways, buying from the US and even sending to a US address and going and getting it if you live close to the boarder wouldn't be any cheaper.

Again, I'll vouch for R.A. Hoerr, I've bought from them a number of times, never any issues.
For sure, they have maybe the lowest price or at least right there. But for Canadians to get it shipped to door, or even go get it at a US address if close to the boarder, it adds the costs up. To find a Canadian source that keep costs down makes things easier. R.A. Hoerr is in IL??

Here we are, Gents!

Just in moments ago from Blackstone:

HPL SC 0W30 & RP 20-820 of used
10,200Km's of all winter usage.

Thoughts?

Suggestions if a longer run time on this oil would be good.

I'd keep the interval the same as long as copper is high, but that alum and iron is very sweet for a long interval. Obviously oil tbn is solid, but maybe overkill as long as copper stays high. TAN is ok but at a longer interval we could see copper go up and that would be a bad deal. TAN should be lower but if it was an issue you would see it on iron and alum numbers, so tbn is so strong it is handling it, but not ideal so I would not go further on interval until all of this gets solved.

What kind of winter do you get? Really cold? Last couple times Canadian Tire had PUP on sale I stocked up on 5W20 and 5W30. I may have to go and show them my bills and see if they will let me exchange the W20's for W30's. I have a stock of Lubegard as well.
Calgary sees the cold in winter. We go through stretches of above normal then we get cold snaps. February was -20 to -30C (-4 to -22F) for most of the month. Our Wrangler lives outside now as there is no room in the garage. I have been lazy and not plugging it in either. Started every time.

In general we would see colder snowier winters than Ontario.

The largest tell is to look up the 5 year stock price, those brands by in large are failing with exception of Honda and Subaru is all over the place, Ford is ehe whatever.

Mind boggling to think Toyota has out paced all manu's here, could it be as simple as their entry into nascar? Mid 2000's Toyota started sponsoring races like at my home track Toyota 350 and went full time racing by 2007, now has a team owned by Michael jordon himself. When they announced they were going racing they were at 66 bucks stock price. The rumor is dodge is coming to nascar again, craftsmen truck series next year cup a year later, wee will see. They have a great young driver in the ranks named butter bean. It would be a show if he would be the driver for dodge. Might want to buy stock in dodge if this comes to fruition.

Butterbean?
This is the new butter bean, and in a cruel twist his last name is wait for it... queen. He is one of maybe three old school throw backs, Cole Custer, austin hill and this guy. In only 3 races in one of NASCAR feeder series he won the crown jewel Daytona. He driving style is quite spirited, whoever lands him is gonna have a heck of driver. You all will hear more about this kid, hopefully he gets a top team which sadly is the only way anyone will succeed in cup. Looking to see how Dodge develops, of course Toyota gets all of the real talent, it's a dam near monopoly in feeder series.

In 2009 we got the rav 4 23,888, we got the cross 24,780 16 years later. Freaking 0w08, yeah two years maintenance free but I will at least go 5w20. No trans dip stick, so this will be fun figuring out changing that. The rav 4 paid off and running like a top, but she needed a new shiney thing. Why tall people can get in out of cross, as you can see it is higher off ground.

0w8 oil? My wife's 2025 Rav 4 takes 0w16 per owners manual I downloaded... Oh I was very surprised when the wife told me last tank hand calculated fuel mileage was 40.52 mpg, I like that number being it has just over 1200 miles on the OD.

ILSAC GF-6B multigrade engine oil
Recommended viscosity: SAE 0W-16
SAE 0W-16 is the best choice
for good fuel economy and good
starting in cold weather.
If SAE 0W-16 is not available,
SAE 0W-20 oil may be used.
However, it must be replaced
with SAE 0W-16 at the next oil change.

Where do you guys typically take your used oil/transfluid? I usually bring mine to the dump but they have stopped taking it.

I know most auto parts stores take it, I've just never needed to bring it to one before.

What about coolant?
