So the key to the Toyota transmission pan is simple, no dip stick, but an overflow device. It is simple, you can pull that orange tube through drain bolt, thus all the fluid at that level drains out. Here is the best, fills like a diff, as you are filling it when some spills over = full done. They do say you need to drive a bit and do it again, but only downside dropping pan they're is a couple quarts in it. the Mercedes is similar, they have a diff like window on the side = easy.

So why couldn't someone put this on a zf8? Seams simple enough.

So there is a stand pipe inside the pan. Fill until fluid overflows the standpipe and you have reached the proper level. KISS

yup, just like a diff window. And the pipe screws in so it ain't going anywhere. So simple it's perfect.

Wait, did we just gossip the gossip pipe, lol?

I bought plain old Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF Dexron III for log splitter hydraulics. Group III base oil good enough for homeowner stuff @ modest pressures: 1,500 psi 1st stage, 3,000 psi 2nd stage. Only hits 2nd stage on knots, maybe 5% of run time at most.

Most of the time the oil isn't even pressurized, it's just circulating around. $9.99 qt delivered from Summit. Dexron III is slightly higher vis than these modern 'gas saving' low vis ATF oils, which is why I went with this instead of Valvoline MaxLife for $8 per quart.

I called Donaldson and got a Microglass hydraulic filter from the local Distributor we used at work. 10 micron Beta 1,000 (95%). Probably last forever since the pump gears are well broken in. Leave it on until the buna N gasket disintegrates from age. lol

Damn that idea might just work on the ZF's Mike. Now we just need an outfit that'd be willing to incorporate a stand off pipe into the replacement pans

If someone is going to buy a new pan, before taking the pan off, start drilling holes from top to bottom and see where the fluid line is? How could it not work?

Well considering the fill plug is a couple inches above the pan rail, i think you'd be drilling into the transmission case to find the height of the fluid in a full transmission, lol

So there is the rub, but even if the level is above the pan, you "could" make this work. Where there is a will, there is a way.

I have already seen aftermarket ones you could screw into any pan, I think dorman, not my favorite name in brands, but this would be simple in theory.

I also think it could be made to work to Mike, you'd just need to find an area where the tube wouldn't interfere with anything inside the transmission

I have no idea why people buy new cars or think new cars are in some way better, sigh. Back up camera, that is it, that is all I would ever miss going back. Bunch of hoey, I literally could not turn on the radio today. Only way to opt out, buy old cars and fix them up.

You guys want the red pill or the blue pill today? Latest data from US gov't on co2 emissions up to 2023, so this data was a year ago. Um the obama years were good if this is something you care about. Of note, trumps first presidency was the best, and for whatever reason Biden's term despite corona advantages was way higher then Trumps. In fact President Trump's first presidency was the lowest co2 emissions since before 1990. No doubt aided by Obama policies. But bigger point we can call a total victory and end to harmful programs that only cost us tax dollars? It must have been all this 5w20 we all are using, we ended climate change fellas. Since it was both sides that led to these great years, I'm sure we all can agree the climate emergency is over? Hugs all around? I think this is what Obama and trump were talking about at Carter's funeral. Let's get that bromance going. It would be nice to know the reason, like all of the regulation like thin oils and emissions on vehicles or the fact we lost our manufacturing base? Since this is US emissions only. Stuff is getting better every day!

Google AI says it was thanks to emissions policy's like using 5w20 in a hemi. My guess we still have some work to do to make AI actually spit facts.

  • Factors Contributing to the Decline:
    • The transition to cleaner energy sources and a shift away from coal-fired power generation have reduced emissions from the power sector.
    • Emissions have also fallen due to reduced miles driven, increased vehicle fuel economy, and lower emissions from air travel.
    • Changes in transport emissions from fewer miles per-capita, more efficient vehicles, and less air travel emissions per-capita.

Hmm fellas Dodge coming back to nascar and now this,,,

Car and driver published yesterday.

This is not the first time we've heard talk of the Hemi V-8's return. Earlier this month, an alleged leaked document and subsequent report said that the Ram 1500 TRX is coming back, along with the 5.7-liter and 6.4-liter Hemi engines.

Ok for real are we about to witness the making of rams great again? Dodge rumor is for one or two years they will be in the truck series only. They are going to have to have an actual stock car to enter cup, toyo has the Camry, Ford the mustang, NASCAR is allowing Chevy to use the Camaro but Chevy will have to figure out that deal soon, so expect dodge to have something similar in their lineup. Might be a move back for hemi ram and a new muscle car?

A refreshed Hemi would be nice. The Hemi we lost where already 15 years old and they put the new Straight 6 in the new one, so just putting the old one back seems a bit strange right?

My 12 ram update. neighbor has had it a year now he is still running Castrol edge 5w30 and a puralator boss filter. It’s got 175k on it now and it still sounds smooth, holds excellent OP, and runs great. Maintaining them from the start seems to be the key. Also finding what oil and filter they like and sticking with it.

I will also add Mobil 1 has again become my favorite oil. Im running it and their filter now in my Flex. I can’t believe the the smoothness it now has with that filter. No CEL like I have read can happen when you use anything but a motorcraft filter. My LSX engine is really loving that 15w50 and the XP filter. It leapt from 50 cold and 30 hot to 75 cold 60 hot. That is crazy, but when the previous owner ran 5w30 and a micro guard… I am sure just a cheap oil change since it was the first one after the break in, but still a almost 30k engine and you put crap in it. I would have spent the money.

Obama's lower emissions were a combination of the newer cars on the road because of the "Cash for Clunkers" program and the recession throughout his two terms, curtailing driving.

Cash for Clunkers was a disaster for lower income consumers and low end independent car dealers, as most of the good, low priced cars were crushed.

But, newer cars by the millions replaced high mileage older cars that polluted more.

I had my dealers license during that time. Finding older used cars was impossible. The auction I went to was averaging 400 - 450 cars per week before C4C. After, I saw nights where there were as few as 25, with 25 to 50 per week being the normal.

I also went to new car dealers that a large part of their lot was filled with nice cars they couldn't sell because they were slated to be crushed.

Those newer car emissions from C4C also helped Trump's pollution numbers, plus, his last year in office was a Covid year, and hardly anyone was on the road driving.

I well remember those nights at the auction with eyes watering and throat burning from the exhaust.

I also remember not having cars to sell because most were being crushed, and the remainder bringing well over double what they did a few months earlier.

Priced haven't returned to anywhere normal since that time.
