DI. I think we agreed M1 ESP 0W-30 doesn't have sufficient Mo added for hemi.

Hence, HPL SC 0W-30 for Hemi (lots of Mo).

It has esters/pao with visc 12, yeah ok not 200ppm moly but literally everything else was a win. If another voa verifies that ester count, like newsflash we have an OTC redline clone better in many ways maybe not moly. Not sure I'd run a 1700pp, CA with no mag in a di, but different strokes for different folks.

IDK, Travis convinced me to try M1 ESP 0W-30 based on his analysis and Bob's users experience, so I have 3 cases on the shelf.

Remember it was not too long ago that Red Line vanished from the marketplace and was super high priced just prior, they wouldn't say anything and Dave Granlund retired before they moved out of California. We were groping around how to replace Red Line (just like with filters when the hucksters bankrupted Fram & RP), then I had a turbo GDI on top of the Hemi. Now all of a sudden, Red Line is back with decent prices again. I mean, WTF, man? My read on this is corporate overlord Conoco-Phillips forced them to move from CA to a low cost place and the transition resulted in product disappearance for months (remember when PUP disappeared when SOPUS changed oil jugs from charcoal color to Pennzoil yellow color, yet said nothing about it?). All of a sudden, Red Line is back with a vengeance.

The root cause of all of these problems is engine makers designing defective engines, forcing owners to go to forums to figure out how to make them last at all. The defects being incorporated due to government-mandated fuel mileage increases based on said engine makers saying it's possible, regardless if said engines don't last.

This all just...sucks. Makes my work from 25 years ago seem trivially-simplex.

Penetrate isn't a lubricant, so get the right one, they have a ton of lubricants. My front porch is full of remnants of projects and I have a couple bottles next to my mess. good stuff They even have a fluid film knock off, have that too.

Well, I went out to the barn and discovered I'm out of diesel motor oil for the tractor, so I stocked up with two years of my usual oil. I know it's changed over the years with API ratings changes and who knows what else, but I will say the motor runs great with 2,168 hours run time in HARD use (near full power mulching 3 seasons, and snow in winter), and the valvetrain looked like new when we opened it up to adjust valve lash @ 1,200 and 2,000 hours). Clean, no deposits, no wear marks. Awesome oil...

Looks new.

That store front looks suspicious, only sales have been sports memorabilia 20 times. No oil sales.

I like ESP 0w-30 in both DI and hemis. Mobil states on the website and bottles it meets API SQ engine test requirements which covers LSPI but it has to much phosphorus to be an API oil. Also MB229.52 has an LSPI test. Similar to the dexos spec but the LSPI test is less strict or atleast thats what i read

It's the additive content that's bugging us, Trav.

How could only Mobil get away with old-timey beaucoup Calcium and no Magnesium yet not cause LSPI?

Having purchased both RL and HPL SC I can say both can be had in virtually the same price range. I've run RL 5w-30 and now HPL SC 0w-30 and based strictly on observations as I only have UOAs for Red Line, maybe we can compare RL to HPL. I found a VOA of the HPL SC 0w-30 from 2023, no idea how this might compare/contrast with 2026 HPL SC...

Do you have a current 2026 batch of HPL SC 0W30 with you now?

If so, can you send to Blackstone and obtain TAN & TBN as well so we can have another v_ir-gin oil sample to compare it to, to determine if the 2023 and 2026 batches are still aligned?

I actually have some unused from the last oil change in January 2026. Probably 1/2 quart or so, HPL SC 0w-30, still in the factory 1-gallon jug and capped.

I also have some unopened from just a couple weeks ago, have no idea if there would be any difference between the batches?

It would be interesting, and pertinent, to see what differences there may be, if any.
