My theory here @HEMIMANN is they are using calcium salicylate instead of calcium sulfonate. A while back mobil had some extremely detailed SDS sheets. Like so detailed it was almost a recipe aside from ester content. Anyway, it listed calcium salicylate in the ESP oils. I used chatgpt to ask some questions and develop a theory and from what i can tell, calcium salicylates do not contribute to LSPI the way traditional calcium does. Just my theory

OK so I thought I would be frugal and only send off the 2026 V.O. sample. I don't see anyone finding and buying 2025 oil anyway.

It's ready and going in the mail tomorrow morning. Actually I can get to the Post Office now, before final pickup, give it a day's head-start!

I actually have some unused from the last oil change in January 2026. Probably 1/2 quart or so, HPL SC 0w-30, still in the factory 1-gallon jug and capped.

I also have some unopened from just a couple weeks ago, have no idea if there would be any difference between the batches?

It would be interesting, and pertinent, to see what differences there may be, if any.
That would be great to see, and appreciated Brother!!!

I shook the crap out of the v_ir-gin oil before I filled the oil sample container to ensure there was no possibility of having any of the goodies in the oil settled at the bottom so we had a really accurate analysis!!!

DI. I think we agreed M1 ESP 0W-30 doesn't have sufficient Mo added for hemi.

Hence, HPL SC 0W-30 for Hemi (lots of Mo).
Adding 15oz or so of Bio-Tech to my next OCI with the M1 ESP 0W30 to hopefully achieve near HPL SC 0W30 levels of protection!!

I'll do an initial 6,000km OCI on this oil strategy and then do the UOA with TAN & TBN with Blackstone, hopefully being able to then push OCI's to 8,000km's or greater afterward. We'll see what the "tale of the tape is"!

I typically do 10,000km OCI's with HPL SC, but this current last run I'm on I'll push it to at least 12,000km's and then send the oil sample to Blackstone with TAN & TBN. This will be a really good piece of info for our database!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good on 'ya.

I'm just lazy and am ok with two different oils for two different engines. Yet I start getting heartburn when I start needing multiple oils for the same engine, the shelf gets cluttered with all sorts of oils. It's getting ever worse with all these defective engines needing all kinds of oil bandaids.

So I'm keeping it HPL SC 0W-30 for Hemi and Mobil 1 ESP 0W-30 for the Mazdas. At least HPL eliminates a summer/winter dedicated oil for the Hemi (Red Line's 0W-30 is too stiff in winter to prevent cold weather piston slap on startup, sans oil heater in use anywhere you travel).

For the air-cooled I generally use Mobil 1 V-Twin 20W-50 (Briggs, motorcycles, etc.). I had been using Red Line 20W-50 for the Harley, stocked up, then they went through their corporate convulsion, now they seem to be back so not sure what I'll use this fall when I put it to bed for the winter. Harley branded stuff is very weak (VOA/UOA) and overpriced, some guys like Amsoil, IDK.

Diesel tractor I use Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5W-40. Superb engine cleanliness. Been using for 18 years, thru all API formula changes. Delvac 1 used to be different, now specs are identical and Mobil won't say boo about it (I asked).

I had to to wally's today, sigh. Oil shelf looks good, still full, and prices showing many choices 23 bucks for 5 quart. And to my amazement, they carry pup in 5w30 and 0w20.

Then look at the oil filter shelf, wow what a debacle, mostly empty shelves with 3 brands m1, motor craft and AC Delco. There is nothing else, even all old stock long gone.

Walmart locally replaces the Fram selections with Purolator filters. So Mobile, Purolator, Motorcraft, Mopar, AC Delco are main ones on shelf. Oil was fully stocked.

I added to the oil shortage by loading up on 7jugs of 5w30 PUP, 8jugs 0w20 kirkland (odyssey) and 3jugs of valvoline maxlife atf (good for both ram and odyssey).

This will give me 8oci on the van at 10,000km each and approx 5oci on the ram at 10,000km each. War should be over, hopefully.

Some of you may have already watched. It's longer, but lots of information.

Post in fuels and additives......not in synthetic oil @G-Ride990

Where do you think I should move it to? There are a few sections that might work. I don't mind moving it, just don't know where to go with it.

There used to be a Fuel Additives forum, that was removed after the site redesign some years back.

Members have been posting fuel questions as new, specific threads under either engine & performance or general discussions.

For instance, instead of posting a Fuel Additives thread, somebody posted Fuel Additives for 2020 Hemi. Awfully specific.

Start a new thread and we'll stick it.

It's a great idea to have a separate section for fuel additives, not sure how active it will be. But I am willing to try it out.

Just ordered up a case of Redline 5W30 for the possible oil shortage to come.

Now I need to pickup some oil for both our Pentastars.
.
The way things have been going you might want to grab a
couple real purdy little filters while you're at it. ;)

Just ordered another 7 qts oil fer the RAM and picked up (2) EP Oil Filters from Carquest for the RAM, so I am good for like 2 years now.
Will have to change OIL on the Motorcycle and find a filter and get 4 Qts of Mobil 1 10-40 non additive for the Honda. That be later this week. Below for the MC. MC has the Boxer 1832 CC motor, takes exactly 4 quarts.
All cleaned up MC 3-30-23.jpg
