According to the carfax report, before I bought it my Rogue had 5-7k oil changes with whatever bulk oil was used at the various dealers and shops it was taken to. When I got it with 83k, I immediately changed it over to SS 0w20 and did a 3k interval, then a 5k. About 91k I started getting timing/phaser codes that would come and go. On the Nissan 2.5 there's 3 vvt solenoids that are notorious for "going bad". In the Rogue you have to take an engine mount out and lift the motor about 3in in order to get access to the vvt solenoids so I started looking for alternatives.

I read they can get gummed up from sludge and varnish so I tried Valvoline Restore & Protect. I did 2 3000 mile OCIs and the timing codes never came back. Now almost at 103k I'm at the end of a 3k run with R&P. So the question is, would SS0w20 have gotten the same results had I continued to use that? I think the answer is yes, but I intended to run that oil 5-7k vs the 3k I've been doing the Valvoline so it may have taken longer.

Either way R&P is the real deal, it's just I'm not really sure what in it is helping to clean so well. All the VOAs and UOAs I've seen look like pretty run of the mill Group 3 synthetic. But whatever voodoo they put in that oil works.

Okay, Folks...

Bottles of RL HP 5W30 my friend used, and this is what was in the bottom of the bottles after him pouring out the contents into his oil fill jug.

Is this normal?

Normal for redline, it is just additives falling, next time shake it.

Naphtha is a mild solvent, maybe the best thing for flushes up there with certain esters. Slow and effective is the way to go on flushes.

I thought they had started pre-filling the oil with cam and lifter particles so a person wouldn't have to keep looking for them.......

lol

The Valvoline Video (online somewhere - probably Lake Speed's YT channel) says it's the magic additive blend that does it - so it doesn't clean too quick. But they also caution to change quick cause it does clean pretty quick.

I have used this additive for years in my modded VW turbo charged cars.
And now in my current 2024 1500 RAM.
I have never had a problem. My tuner who modded all of my VW turbo charged cars recommended it since they use it in all of their clients cars.

Hey guys, decided to do another oil analysis on the ole Schaeffers. Couldn’t remember the particular Blackstone thread to use recommended by y’all so I just decided to put it here.

Seems pretty impressive. Iron PPM’s the lowest it’s ever been at 21 for a truck that does a lot of short trips to and from work with lots of remote starting and now almost 60,000 miles on the clock.

Not trying to make a case for it but even the Mopar OE filter did good according to Blackstone for a 5,300 mile interval. Copper PPM’s a little higher than it was on the Mobil 1 EP I ran year and a half ago.

BTW- the first sample column on the right and the second one to the left of it was both PUP 5w20 with Wix 57060XP filter….

Third column going left was the one and only interval with the Amsoil SS 5w20 and their Amsoil EA15K50 oil filter.

Fourth column going left was the first run of Schaeffers 9000 Supreme 5w20 and a Wix 57060XP filter.

Fifth column going left was the one and only time I ran the Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w20 and a Royal Purple 10-48 filter. IMG_1190.jpeg

Dang Smoke won his first and I missed it. I saw last week where all the top cars took themselves out early and he had a chance only to lose in final. Then this week was 4 wide's? Anyone catch Stewart's first win?

10 bonus points if you can name all the specific species of ticks you were catching.

Daily Double if you can further identify them by families, i.e. hard ticks vs soft ticks!

:)

I'm not that schooled - need to ask @Travis8352 in da U.P., home of the Spring Wood Tick Races.
