Easy fix, unhook the power wire and use the key if you need to lock it.

Just had my ‘16 in at the dealer for this. There was a piece broken inside of the handle / lock assembly. I guess it’s supposed to stop the lock actuator from hitting the release. I actually heard it when it broke and found the piece of metal on my bumper. About 1/2” square but couldn’t figure out where it came from as everything worked fine.

I will say since it’s been fixed the lock actuator in my tailgate is it as loud anymore either.

As a side note it took about 3 months for the tailgate to start falling after the piece broke off. But once it did start falling it was a 2-3 times a day thing.

Mine just started doing that. Everyone I talk to says its common, and to replace the actuator mech. (already adjusted 6 ways from sunday.) so thats next on my list...

I bought my 2016 dodge ram about four days ago and the tailgate has fallen twice I am taking it back Monday ,which will be one week when bought to see what the Dodge dealership will do
