This is my first post but I've read the whole thread thank you guys for all the help you didn't know you were providing me. I bought my radio from Rhino Radios about 3 weeks ago and I pulled it out today to try and do the external mic mod and once I got it out and flipped it over there was a 3.5 Jack on the underside by one of the many inputs that I have no idea what they are for. It wasn't marked for external mic so I thought it was worth a try. I have Amazon prime so I ran inside this morning and ordered a 3.5 mic. It arrived I plugged it in and it works perfect.

I bought two from Phoenix and returned both.... but, I don't recall seeing a 3.5mm jack spot on the back of either one. Wasn't looking for it, but I probably would have noticed it.

Mine were PX6 units though....so, who knows....could be different than the 7.1 fast boot ones.

Awesome! If you could take good pictures of the harness side and where it plugs I'd appreciate it.

I doubt it as the use of two microphones often involves an onboard signal processor of some sort but microphones and adapters are so cheap it's worth a try...

A 3.5mm channel splitter (y-cable) should work perfectly fine for this application. The fact that you are trying to pick up sound from one source (I. E. The truck cab) and are sending that sound to one source channel (I. E. The head unit 3.5mm input), and you do not require multi channel mixing capabilities, this will work just fine.

You may however encounter slightly higher ambient noise over the mic feed, as now you have an array that can pick up noise from multiple angles.

But as a straight forward answer. Yes this will work.

Here are the pics of the 3.5 jack on the back of my unit. I also tried the splitter to run dual microphones it didn't work my wife said it made the volume really low she couldn't hear me. After a trip to the wrecking yard I bought the factory headliner microphones from a 2018 the guy basically gave them to me only $2.00. I only wanted the mic for the cover. The last pic is of the 3.5 mic installed in the factory cover.

The volume being lower is kind of what I was referring to with regard to noise. The dual mics will share a signal, producing a larger range of ambient sound pickup. The two mics probably are sharing any sort of low voltage as well. So to use both mics, you'd probably need a powered mic or low voltage preamp.
