I'm curious about where this device is any more useful that a multimeter or a lamp tester?

I would tests fuses with a multimeter.

Most multimeters have an ohm meter/continuity tester with tone.

And a power probe tester likely cost about $5 or $10. I'm guessing that you likely already own these devices, or multiples of them.

What am I missing? Is it the cool green & red LEDs?

Those power probes work great. There are a couple less expensive alternatives available if the cost is whats keeping you from buying one. I believe Autel and Innova make versions of the Power Probe that arent as costly

The way i took the video was it isolates where the break would be in a wiring harness with-out probing anything or unwrapping the harness to find where the break is.Maybe i misread the video though


Edit: went back and reread it again,and paid more attention this time around,and i think i misread it the first time around,so i'm not sure it's all that great.

IIRC, they mentioned the test probe could puncture the insulation without damaging the jacket.

So, is that like a magic hole that re-seals itself?

Too much hype and then they're saying you can have it at half price. Only ~$55.

If you have a test light and a multimeter already, just add a cheap telecoms tracer and it's the same thing.

Also, check Amazon for "automotive circuit tester" and the same thing comes up for under $25 for most of them

I've been using a Power Probe for several years; it is a fantastic tool because you can use it to provide ground, B+, or measure. The model I have can also work with a PWM signal, such as that used by a fuel injector. I use the Power Probe for something as simple as priming my fuel system after filter changes.

My 2 cents on the automotive tester: notice how wordy the page is. You read for quite a while before discovering what it can do, or what it says it can do. And then, the 50% off offer. OK, enough. You are better off with a $30 Harbor Freight tester and a DVM. Or, get a ProwerProbe.

A power probe is very nice because it can activae components, but it is way over priced.
It is simply one of THESE but also has a built in circuit breaker. But 10 time the price is sad $17 vs. $170
