If you want a solid trans for a street truck making power you might consider a Martin Saine built 46rh with manual vb. I've been running one for 5 years without issues. If it is a race truck than you have more options such as 727, TH400.. IMO the 545rfe was weak in 2009 and is still weak in 2019..

That's an amazing amount of smoke that guy was trying to blow up someone's ass 10yrs ago lol. The aftermarket had over 10yrs to look at the RFE and what did they come up with besides minimal stuff (valve bodies, shift kits, line boosters)? Nothing lol. I'd look into an 8HP70 swap for a street truck.

By far the easiest swap is the 46rh. The trans bolts to the hemi. The adapter flexplate to use a 46rh converter is around $100. Will need either a 05 manual starter motor or 46rh starter. Floor shifter for 3spd auto. Cross member needs the mounting holes elongated about 3/8". Original driveshaft fits. I recommend a full manual vb and two toggle switches to operate the OD and LU. I use a 05 manual pcm without issues. The automatic pcm can be flashed manual or left alone depending how clean you want your dash. Build or buy a trans that wiill hold your horsepower and select a converter you like. I use a custom built 9.5" billet converter with 3500 stall. 31"x16-15" tires (3:91 gear) and use 2nd and 3rd or just 3rd on the street.20180627_094507.jpg

Just a heads up, a 46rh/re with a manual valvebody running full pressure has some pretty aggressive shifting. All the time. Once you go that route it’s no longer a quiet smooth factory ride haha. It’s awesome, but has its downsides as well

As Chris points out it can be driven aggressively. A 3000 or higher TC is not subtle leaving a light. My MS converter allows me to leave from a stop in 3rd gear in a somewhat subtle fashion. For passing all that's needed is to unlock the converter. Care is needed when aggressively passing as two lane roads have poor traction.
