I was wondering if anyone has had the transmission fill tube break on their ram 2500 with the 6.4 hemi. I dropped my truck off at the dealer tonight to get a couple recalls done and the transmission serviced. A couple hours after I dropped it off the dealer called saying that the fill tube was broke and it would be $270 to replace it. I am still a bit confused and will be going down there in the am to see for myself. Anyone ya any input or thoughts please let me know.

You were getting the trans serviced at the dealer and the dealer probably broke your fill tube and are pinning it on you.

They probably set a full gallon jug in the funnel that was in the fill tube and the weight broke it.

That’s kind of what I’m thinking. I mean these things don’t normally just flipping break, right? Like I said I’m going down in the morning and take a look at it myself. I already called the service manager at the dealer and he said he will look at it with me in the am.

I doubt they broke it. Setting weight on it would just bend or kink it.

I’ve seen a handful of them broken on 6.4 trucks. They crack right around the back of the intake manifold. I believe they’ve actually updated the design with an extra support so they don’t crack from vibrations.

You have some wisdom about how to put a new fill tube in! Mine broke also.

Not gonna lie, they’re not very fun to replace. Having a hoist makes it easier. I don’t really have any tips, other than patience. I honestly can’t even remember if I took it out the top or bottom. It’s been awhile since I’ve changed one.

You mean like to hoist the motor, or like a hoist to get the truck off the ground?

Could you pull up the procedure and see what it calls for? I can’t find anything on line about it which is strange because so many of them broke that the changed it’s design.
Thanks

Hoist as in to lift the vehicle up and down so you’re not laying on your back.

Unfortunately there isn’t a published service procedure from FCA for changing it.

So I thought I’d give an update. I ended up having them repair it and it was around $300. I got my receipt called dodge and submitted it for 100k power train warranty. They called about a week later and It took three weeks but they cut me a check for the total out of pocket cost. If you decide to do this yourself make sure when you talk to them you explain how the replacement part is an updated one with an added support bracket to fix the factory defect. :)
