my 17 is nearing 100k and im preparing to do a major tune up. after way too much time, all i've really discovered is that my first choice (amsoil) might not be the best choice. i have seen a lot of guys like valvoline max life. im assuming its the red bottle one that says maxlife multi vehicle? the other one im really interested in is Ravenol. Blauparts has a deal right now on all the fluid, bolts, pan and hand pump for 270. pretty hard to beat, i just dont want to do it and then have to redo it. doesnt seem to be a ton of info on the revenol just yet.

along with the transmission fluid/filter change, i plan to do front and rear diffs, transfer case, plugs, coolant, serpentine belt, PCV valve, probably going to add shorty's to fix my broken manifold bolts (would love long tubes but the price of those and a tune is freakin crazy).

anything else i should be looking at? i swapped the brake fluid maybe 10k miles ago, shocks and springs were replaced with 5100's and eibach lift springs at around 50k.

I used the OEM fluid on one change and Audi branded ZF 8 speed fluid on another. I have read but never bothered to verify that Ravenol is the OEM supplier of the ZF fluid. Unless the fluid is packaged by a petroleum company like Valvoline or Shell it’s made by someone else for the OEM.

I use am soil in my front and rear differentials, I use Castrol trans-ATF plus4 in my transmission and Rotella 5w40 in my truck. The reason on the differentials with Amsoil it runs thinner in the winter months with great lubrication. Each person will tell you different ways. Do what works best for you. And always keep a record of everything you do to the truck with mileage when you do it. It helps in value when you go to trade your truck off.

See shocking truth about zf fluid thread, use amsoil in diffs and t case, but the issue is the 8 speed can be sensitive to real synthetic fluid, note pour points. Use OEM, lifeguard or maxlife all proven choices in 8 speed, use whatever one of those three makes you feel better. Generally speaking amsoil has been better then redline on 8 speed, you would likely be ok there, I think redline uses more esters and they are just too slippery for that application "according" to a certain % of ram forum users. No reason to use redline, and even though it is ok in those one application you probably would be better with general quality fluid as the 3 I said in first sentence.

BTW, this is regarding zf fluid, you should mention what transmission you have, different info for rfe where redline and amsoil shine.

3.6 VVT
I used Amsoil in front diff, locally purchased valvoline full synth in rear. The zf8 fluid option are not as pricey as it first was and you can't go wrong playing it safe with it. If you're the type that likes changing fluid often then I'd go Maxlife. I took the chance 6k miles ago with Amsoil signature series fuel efficient and it's been running great. It may depend on the motor, I have the 3.6 vvt.
