Just a brief rant about gas prices.

Love my truck. Don't like driving cars. I get they are not ever going to be fuel sippers. BUT, traded in my 17 MPG chevy for my 12.5 MPG ram and gas prices are up nearly $0.50 since the day I bought it.\

I love my new Ram. This weekend I'm adding the last of the mods I have sitting in the garage and will get pics up, but damn talk about kicking a guy when he's down. Add to that I only put 89 in it and my wallet's a bit bruised...

Gas is always a punch in the chest. Good thing I get a work vehicle and only drive mine 2 out of 7 days. Still, even with the fuel prices I would never go back to a car.

yeah toofart, I know. My wife tells me "Hey you picked that monstrosity, deal with the pain!" It's a silly thing to fuss about but it's an expense I see way too often to just forget.

I love the line someone here has about mileage- something about asking about truck miles per gallon is like asking about a Prius' towing capacity. Love that line. Don't get me wrong, It's a minor complaint, but I'm pretty sure that the Ferrari guys ***** and moan about gas prices sometimes too

and dammit I like cake!

nope, wouldn't change a thing about the truck. If bad mileage is the tradeoff it's a good deal to me. Doesn't mean I won't moan about it sometimes. Ha!

Hemi, 8spd and 3.21 gears gets me round about 2mpg shy of what I was getting in my 2011 Avalon that I traded on the truck, sticking right around 16mpg and I drive 90% city. My fuel cost has gone up about $15-20 for every 7-10 days so it's pretty negligible for me. I tend to view it as an increased cost for the extra convenience and utility I get having a truck vs a car or even SUV.

I had to make a 100 mile highway round trip, and it brought my average up on the evic from 16.1 to 18.4, so I figure i was running about 21mpg most of the way with the cruise set at 75. Truck has a hair under 1400mi on it so the mileage has been getting better as the motor wears in.

But big tires and loud stuff that makes your right foot heavier certainly don't help the mileage haha.

Fuel prices are definitely hard to take when you can put $100 in a pickup. Being an old crabby *******, though, I can remember when gas hit $1 for the first time. It was the end of the world. My uncle ran a gas station, and the old mechanical pump meters could not figure that high, so they were set at half-price, and you had to double it at the end. Big fun.

The problem is not on the consumer end, well, other than a problem for our budget/finances.

The problem is with Big Oil :)

But, that is another topic for another day, and most probably, another forum. haha

It's unfortunate that there isn't really a re-gear solution for 2013-2014 4x4's, unless of course you want to swap in an older front axle (I'm referring to going to 4:10's or larger). It's precisely why I'm not riding on 37's, like you and I have 3.92's/8 Speed.

I'm averaging 15 MPG city with my setup, for what it's worth. 17.5 driving 65-70.

The conflict in the middle east doesn't help things either.

I do notice you're running 3.55s with those 37s. If you bumped your gears up to 4.56s your mileage will go up.....at the offset cost of the gear install. :D

Maybe this will make you fill better. edit (LMAO I actually typed fill) too funny but fitting too.

15000 miles travelled per year

12mpg

1250 gallons of gas used a year

$4 per gallon

=$5000 per year spent on gas

My mileage

15000 miles traveled per year

16.5 mpg

$4 per gallon

909 gallons

$3636 per year

Not bad considering your mods. Heck my wife's Maxima only gets 19 around town, but on the highway it's up there towards 24. However, that thing will freakin fly and go around a corner like no ones business for a 4 door.

Remember this is around town numbers. I get a lot better on back country two lanes.

I see it like this:
I put my truck, it's fuel costs, and modding costs partially in my "hobby/recreational" budget. Others use their trucks to actually do work and earn money.
If these things were strictly for transportation or commuter vehicles, we would be fools to buy them...
Last but not least, there is a little love involved here. I admit it, I love my truck! :) :) :) :)

I "love" your truck too. :roflsquared:
Sorry couldn't help that.
I use to think I was saving money when I use to ride my motorcycle, but with insurance, cost of the bike, maintance, and tag fees, it was like you said more of a hobby. Dang I miss doing zero to sixty in less than 5 seconds though.

Haha thanks! Just leave my tailpipes alone! ;) Lmao!!!

+1 on the motorcycle. I don't ride anymore, that is a BIG savings. What I spent in rear tires alone... Plus the mods, insurance, gas, gear, etc..

I'm the same way, hearing the Hemi rumble, the smoke of the tires, the WTF just happened look on car owners faces....
It all comes down to what it cost to make you happy.... I go threw 3 to 5 tanks a week when I'm driving my little truck....
That big red one only gets a tank....

I don't complain about my gas mileage much, because it does suck, but hey its a truck.

What bugs the **** out of me is the oil companies just raking in the $$$ and as soon as there is any kind of crisis in the Gulf region, they quickly increase gass prices, but reduce them very slowly.

It's like, come on man, we export oil, yet we still have to import oil? It's just ******* killing me that oil companies have us bent over with our pants down to our ankles and can give it to us any time they want.

Rant over with big oil.

I love my truck to death and I love driving and doing my own mods. Keeping the truck until it dies , but maybe considering a 4 banger for daily driving.

I think it was Jay Leno that said just building a prius causes more pollution than his 69 camaro that gets 8 mpg on a good day.
