I just got my used 2013 Ram Laredo Laramie. I downloaded the Uconnect app on my iPhone, but what can the app actually do? When I open it I get the message “No active subscription”.
I think it’s a really useful system even though I don’t use it all the time but it sure is nice to be able to make sure you locked your vehicle when you park somewhere if you think you may have forgotten to lock it when you were next to it.
It’s also nice because you have the security feature that if your alarm ever goes off, you’ll get an email or a text telling you about it.
The voice to text feature that one of the other members commented about is not the only thing that you get with this. Matter fact, I don’t even use that but another thing that is nice, if you’re one of those that uses your on board navigation if you have it, the send and go feature is really nice because you have to be stopped in order to input points of interests and addresses directly on your screen but if you have the Uconnect app, you can search for places on the map that’s on the Uconnect app and can cast it to your radio even when you’re going down the road.
One of the cool things about the remote start on the app as for when in the summertime and it’s really really hot, I can use the app to remote start my truck even before I’m outside the store within reception range with the fob, I can already have my truck starting to cool down.
But yes, depending on how good your signal is going to your phone sometimes it may take a little bit for the command to leave your phone, go to the main frame and then send the signal back to your truck to make it do what you want to do.
Another great thing is if you have kids and you let your kids drive your truck, if there’s specific places you don’t want them to go, or if you ever get the feeling that they are somewhere where they say they are and they aren’t, you can track where they’re at on the app.
It’s pretty much just like onstar with the crash thing that if you ever get into an accident, it’ll automatically dial 911 and have the authorities headed to your location if you ever get knocked out or whatever and the SOS button is pretty nice for if you think you’re about to get carjacked or something while you’re sitting on the side of the road with a flat tire waiting for somebody to come change it.
It is an expensive feature but there’s also different packages you can choose from as well. And a lot of times if you call them up when it’s time to renew and tell them you don’t wanna spend the full price for the features that you want, a lot of times they will cut you some slack and give it to you for the year on a cheaper price.
