I think there is a class action on this, another reason have someone fix it.\\\

I like my hydraulic they shouldnt have changed them

I understand why they wanted electric power steering. I don't necessarily like it, but with the fuel mileage standards being shoved down everyone's throat, I understand why they did it.

But they could have at least housed the control module and torque sensor in a separate module. Having to replace the entire rack because of a failed 8$ circuit board, means throwing away a perfectly good precision ground ball-screw, ball nut, dozens of ball bearings and linear bearings, in addition to the housing itself, is just ******* retarded. Or, the version of the word that won't get censored, it's extra-chromosomal!

If EPS units are failing after hitting potholes it would almost then seem to be a circuit board failure of some sort.

I do know that cold solder joints are sometimes very hard to spot.

I would suspect possible failure of the large capacitors, those would take the most abuse due to their size.

Just closing this one out. After diagnosing everything 7 ways to Sunday with no clear indication as to anything other than something with the rack, I installed a new one this morning. Everything is working as it should, no lights and I have power steering again. So all is good (for now).

Thanks to all who chimed in!
