I use Royal Purple full synthetic oil. I buy my oil on Amazon. I bought a 5 quart jug of 5W-20W. I bought another Jug, but they send me 0W-20W can I mix both?

Mixing the two should give you 2.5w-20

I’ve done it before…no issues at all. Use it if ya got it.

So 2.5 is not in a range from 0 to 5.......LoL

I'm currently running mobile 1 0w40 euro spec because Walmart had it marked down to $2/at a while back. Oil pressure is good, no change in engine noises. I think this might be my go-to as long as it starts easily when winter comes. My truck didn't like starting at -40 last year with 10w30 unless I plugged it in.

Google "SAE J300" . There is not fractional or 1/2 Grades unless SAE organization realigns their standards and defines a new grade. So any mixing of different grades will fall within either grades Cst viscosity range as either a heavy or lite of that grade cSt viscosity range.

Trust me, I made the same mistake thinking it was simple math, it is not.

What if I mix tobacco with my 100% pure greenery and try to consume it, what do I get?!

In my opinion only, I get some nasty garbage that belongs to those pedaling nonsense!

However, this is all my own opinion though ;)

Your analogies while whimsical and funny, have very little correlation to the facts that different things are measure in different ways and do not always break down as simple math problems. An example would be that 16oz of lead does not weigh the same as 16oz of gold. Astute people that did not already know the difference would seek out the answer why rather than claim they are the same.

Point taken and considered ;)
I do not disagree with your point whatsoever.

However, the analogy overall corelates to the overview purported.

Yall…..that was supposed to be a joke about the 2.5 viscosity. For some reason my emojis are not showing up on posts. Kinda hard to sense my sarcasm without the little smiling fella.

Anyhow…it won’t kill ya if you mix 2 together….so long as they are close in viscosity. People will always disagree though. Do what makes you happy.

From a simple math question, yes it is, and if you were strictly talking base oils. But I'm not sure it works that way exactly for packaged motor oils.

Something tells me the details are in the additive packages and how they become compatible or not compatible with each other when mixed.

NOT A GOOD IDEA! This weakens the viscosity.

This whole "2.5 weight" is a perfect example of people trying to argue over something simple for the sake of arguing. While not 100% technically correct anybody with common sense understands where that comment is coming from. In the end the difference between 0W-20 and 5W-20 is extremely small and mixing them together makes no significant difference. The fact that the upper number (20) is the same means they will both offer the same characteristics at higher temperatures. One being 0W and the other being 5W means there is a very small difference at cold temperatures.
- Just because the viscosity number is lower, doesn't mean it is "weaker". The lower number simply means it flows easier at lower temperatures.
- For the same brand and family of oil I highly doubt there is any difference in the additive packages. If there are any minor differences I have never heard of it causing any issues.

In the end, it makes really no difference. It's about the same as arguing that ten $10 bills is better than five $20 bills.......
