I tried to do a search on this prior so I’m sorry if it has been addressed. I am looking at trading my 16 1500 in for a 14 Ram 2500 with 63k miles on it. It’s an super clean truck that from what I can tell was only used to haul a camper. With only 12k miles a year I can’t see anything else. I put about 40k per year on mine. I got out and noticed a tick that seemed to come from the drivers side, it wasn’t there when I cranked it. The salesmen said it was a variable valve timing noise and was normal. I just wanted to check and see if he was jerkin my chain or not. The only diesel experience I have is my NH 55hp tractor and it doesn’t have much to take care of. I’ve been told to change fuel filter with oil and I’ll be fine.

I think he's asking about going from a gas truck to a diesel.

I wasn't aware of the VVT on the Cummins. Learn something new everyday.

My advise if you start shopping for a truck already making noises either A buy the extended warranty so you don't have to do the repairs yourself or B talk about the price so that if you do need to adjust say the lash on the valves you can do so with the money you saved.

Not at the moment I’m looking to purchase and I didn’t think to get a video at the time. It’s about an hour away. I just wanted to see if the salesman was BSing me about the VVT in a 2014 and If a tick from that was normal. It’s a very consistent tick that doesn’t sound like it’s coming from the engine at all.

I don't think it has vvt, I'm just telling you Cummins ticks and it is normal. Go test drive one and listen to it, even a new one.

Gotcha, I’ll probably tell them to let me take it to my mechanic prior to signing.

rams are nice trucks, but bad investments, the reason being because they are the cheapest to buy new, as I just showed. Good luck buying a NEW crew cab Ford or Chevy diesel for 35k.

****! Good luck buying a Ford or GM diesel in any configuration for less than low $50's around here. Of course I cant find any HD RAMS for less than low $40s either. That's a hell of a price you got there Burla.

I was thinking the same thing. $35k for a new diesel? Not in NJ. MY Tradesman 6.4 CC LB with few add-ons (chrome wheels/bumpers, Tow pkg, Snow plow prep) was $40k out the door. A diesel would have bumped that up to $50k.

Not sure of pricing in TN. Only here 2 months now.
