I run a 2006 1500 Mega Cab, Hemi Stock. I don't have any electrical modifications in the truck. Recently I've noticed while sitting idle, the voltage gauge drops and the check engine light comes on, when I rev to 1500-2000RPMs, the gauge climbs again and the check engine light goes out. I basically cannot have any auxiliaries (fog lights, heater, heated seats and defroster) running to keep this from happening, unless I want to keep my foot on the gas all the time.. Wondering if anyone out there has had the same type of issue before? Was it a Voltage Regulator or Alternator issue? I should point out its a brand new battery in the truck. Any help to prevent extensive testing and cost would be greatly appreciated!

Check the belt tensioner, check belt condition and test that alternator. Also it would be a good idea to load test the battery.

Sounds like the alternator voltage regulator has gone bad. Get Ready For A New alternator! Not sure if you can rebuild them or have kits available for that.

.
Find a 'Part Source' near you ; they do a full electrical system test for free. Make sure they are testing the alt and not just the batt.
But checking belt condition/tension first is an easy first step.
Mind you, shouldn't it be under warranty??
