28mpg is possible, but you need the right conditions.
When I go visit my parents in the summer (10 hours drive) if it's nice out I average 28 MPG (9.7L/100km) hand calculated. If the truck is fully loaded (5 ppl, luggage and a 600lbs bike in the back) I get 26 MPG (11L/100km) This is achieved by going 55mph (90kmh) using the cruise and it's pretty much flat all the way.
But now for everyday use, I'm normally going 5-10 over the speed limit and in the summer it's more like 22MPG and in the winter 16MPG.
I'm using 91 ethanol free gas.
