I just finished my installation of an Improved Racing oil filter relocation and oil cooler. I went with Improved Racing because I liked the quality look of their components, anodized billet aluminum. These are the items I installed:

- Remote Oil Filter Adapter, ENV-163 with M22X1.5 filter thread
- Remote Oil Filter Head with Thermostat (165°F), ENV-170-T2-F4 with M22X1.5 filter thread
- Dual Pass Oil Cooler, MHX-214-10AN
- Fittings -10AN, 4 straight and 4 90°
- Racing Hose -10AN, Viton inner bore

The reason I wanted an oil cooler is because I tow a 9,000 pound travel trailer and the engine oil gets in the 240° or more range, hopefully this will help keep it a bit cooler. I know that is not too high for synthetic oil, but I just want it a bit cooler. The remote head has a thermostat that limits oil passage through the cooler until the oil temperature is above 165°F

I took it for a short 12 mile test drive and it all worked fine, without any leaks. The temperatures and pressures are as follows, non-towing at idle:

Before install: Water 203°F, Transmission 174°F, Oil 212°F, Oil Pressure 47 PSI
After install on startup: Water 57°F, Transmission 57°F, Oil 57°F, Oil Pressure 57 PSI
After install after drive: Water 203°F, Transmission 170°F, Oil 199°F, Oil Pressure 46 PSI

That looks a ton better than mine, plus an oil cooler as well, good pickup there.

Beautiful set-up,thought about doing something very similar, but I don't tow anything and being a Canuck we don't get enough hot days to justify a similar cooler set-up. Out of curiousity what do you have into the whole operation with hoses / cooler and thermostatically controlled filter mount. FYI you can pop the middle slats out of your grill shutters and it'll make a noticeable difference in your temps.Just leave the top 1 and 1 bottom slat in place on both sides so the putor still thinks they are in place. You can also hunt up Jason Duria on facebook for one of his shutter delete kits,or if you ever tune it,have your tuner delete them and you can get rid of the whole assembly.

About $870 for everything (!!). Their stuff is not cheap. The oil cooler is $249, the remote filter mount with thermostat is $289, and the oil filter adapter plate is $104. Plus fittings and hose.

Also, thank you for the tips on the shutters. I have read some on this and just have not done anything yet. When installing the oil cooler, I had to remove a couple of the slats to get to the fittings, but I put them back in.

Ouch that is a bit expensive, but quality costs, lol. I'd pull the middle slats out for the summer,as they're easy to pop in and out and if you need them next winter pop them back in,but i'm not sure how much you'd need them with a Washington winter, lol. Probably was me who posted the link as I think i'm the only one who's posted a link to Improved Racings stuff in the last while, lol

This is my current temps with the transdapt kit. And 190 engine coolant tstat. It’s mounted behind my bumper and gets cold air right across the filter. Running a royal purple 30-8a filter. Truck holds 8qts Of oil now as well

4" lift and 1.5" body lift makes acessing the oil filter a breeze :)

Is it necessary to upgrade anything with this kit?

The -10 (5/8") hose kit you were looking at earlier wouldn't be a bad upgrade. If you have access to a die grinder and a carbide bit and sanding cartridge roll it doesn't hurt to spend about 15 minutes cleaning up the casting flash and rounding off the internal sharp corners you can get at,i'm not a fan of any sharp edges in my oil system if i can avoid them, and they are a mass produced casting that are a bit rough around the edges,so a few minutes porting/polishing it doesn't hurt

If you do go for a remote filter, remember "out" from the filter adapter on the engine, goes to "in" on the remote filter mount, and "out" from the remote filter mount goes to "in" on the engine filter adapter. If you hook them up "in" to "in" and "out" to "out" you'll have no oil pressure, and you'll have to reverse the hoses on the remote filter mount.
